Hey there,
I'm not sure what my problem is exactly. I have a video which has audio tracks that differ in volume significantly. I want to normalize those. By that I mean that I want a function to go over the track, take a look at the window maxium audio level and determine a gain so that the new peak level is the determined value. The "normalise" plugin however does act kind of weird. First off, I'm not even sure I'm using it correctly. I can modify "Gain", "Maximum gain" and the "Window size". But why can I define a gain in the first place? I don't want to set a gain, but a target peak level. Specifying a gain doesn't really make much sense, because the gain needs to depend on the processed audio in my opinion (for normalization, that is). So therefore if I assume that "gain" is just mislabled and refers to the target level, I set this to 85% and the maximum gain to 400%. The window size is 75 frames in my case (3 seconds of video at 25 fps). However, the relatively loud sections still get boosted even more, well beyond the 85% mark, leading to distortion. I don't want to check every single track to see what the gain needs to be (that's what I'm hoping the normalize plugin will do for me). Can someone enlighten me what I'm doing wrong? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Joe |

There's more than one type of normalisation.
You very probably want to edit the sound in audacity or something like that. http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/normalize.html Rather than the filter in kdenlive which is for ramping the volume up and down on the fly to maintain a level. |
