How do I use the Audio Crossfade effect?

Hi, apparently KdenLive has an audio effect called "crossfade" and "crossfade (4 outs)".
This available when you right click on an audio clip / Add Effect / Audio / 0-F /

How does it work? I cannot figure it out? I've tried selecting two audio clips overlapping in the timeline and then choosing this effect. It is clearly added to the audio clip last selected (label appears on the audio clip) but I hear no cross fading between the overlapping audio clips.

I was hoping it would simultaneously fade out one audio clip and fade in the next where they overlap. This is automatic behaviour in Sony Vegas, but must be done manually in Kdenlive and is quite tedious on large projects.

I can find no documentation on the use of the "crossfade" audio effect in Kdenlive....does anyone know where I can find this?

Thanks.
