Hey there! I just found this editing software, and Im really liking it since its the first ever competent free editing software I've seen so far. But only problem is, when I import a video or recorded audio, and play the preview, the audio is very poppy and crackling. I've only seen one post about this problem, and was only found here. I must say here for clarity that both audio recording and video audio were perfectly fine until they were imported into Kdenlive (If I were to play either one outside the editor, the audio is normal). My computer is decent, and this issue is only being seen in the Kdenlive editor.

Is this problem common? And can it be fixed? Also, is it only with the editor, and does it not reflect how the audio of both video and audio recording turn out in the exported product? Im in dire need of a solution to this

This problem is known. It has something to do with MLT but the dev doesn’t find the root cause so far why that happens.

- What you can try is test with 16-bit PCM WAV.

Out of sync is another issue which is known and has something to do with MLT as well.

- Here you can try: Hit CTRL+SHIFT+, (comma) -> Timeline -> under Thumbnails “Audio”.

Hi there,
I have the same issue: when a new audio clip starts there is a crackling and popping despite the fade in/fade out I've applied everywhere.

The problem is that I'm editing a whole movie.... with multiple files and countless audio clips
I read here (viewtopic.php?f=271&t=150644) that a workaround might be to extract all clips audio tracks in 48000Hz, but that would take an infinite amount of time.

Is there something I can do to act on all the clips at once?

I tried to export audio only in .WAV but the popping remains.
When I play them in the timeline, popping is usually there at first, but if I play it again it goes away.... As if it was a memory problem (I also tried to render at the slowest speed rate possible, without results)

Any ideas?
Thanks!

I'm having this very same issue. I downloaded some stock footage from StoryBlocks in .mp4 format, there's no audio on these. Everything I put in will pop and click as I move the head around (I think that's the right name for it? I'm brand new to video editing, and this program). I've tried a number of different formats as well, .webm, .gif, all without any audio, still get the popping and clicking. I did some searching and in another thread a user suggested right clicking the clip in the project bin and extracting the audio, but I don't get that option as I guess because these clips have no audio.
I tried muting all the track channels on the left hand side, it still pops. Muting the preview window makes the popping and clicking go away, hopefully that helps determine why it's happening.

I'm using version 18.12.1 on Windows 10.

For everybody experiencing this issues, please try the upcoming 19.04 version. For windows you can find installer here: https://files.kde.org/kdenlive/unstable/ (choose the one starting with "kdenlive-19.04beta-git") and for linux: https://binary-factory.kde.org/job/Kdenlive_Nightly_Appimage_Build/lastSuccessfulBuild/artifact/
