I just installed new version from repository kubuntu 19.10.
When I load video file I don't have audio playback. Under preferenc I don't have audio driver selection.

I checked and mlt and ffmpeg installed. Is there some specific package that need to be installed for it to work?

Try with the 19.12.3 AppImage to see if there are any packaging issues.
