Bad audio quality after rendering

Mon Aug 31, 2020 7:22 pm
Hi,

I've recently created a video in kdenlive with the sounds of the videos, my voice and music. After arranging everything and using the Audio Mixer to arrange the volumes, so that everything can be heard loud and clearly, I rendered the video. But in the file, my vocals are sometimes difficult to understand, especially when there is also music. In kdenlive the music is quieter and my voice can be heard very clearly. I tried to render the video with different formats and codecs, but it always sounds the same. Not to be misconcepted, there are no strange sounds like clicking that some users in the forum have complained about.
How can I export a video so that it sounds like in kdenlive?

Thank you for your help in advance!

Do you working with version 20.08.0 and do you are on Windows and your country decimal separator is comma? If so change to a country setting with a point as decimal separator like EN or change your decimal separator in the setting to point. Then try to render.

I'm using 20.08.0 on Linux Mint. I'm living in Germany and here the decimal separator is a comma. Which settings do you mean and where can I find them?

Do you use the AppImage? If not please try with the AppImage.

What is coming to my mind is using the daily AppImge build to test: https://binary-factory.kde.org/job/Kden ... /artifact/. We made some change lately on the Windows site about the comma issue. Can you upload the Kdenlive project file somewhere so we can test?

It's the same with the latest version.
The project with all its video files is over 20 GB big, so I'd recommend that I create a small video project which I will upload to the FritzNAS and send you the download link. How can I send you a private message, because I don't want to post the domain publicly?

Thank you for the project file and the explanation. This seems to be a mathematic problem between the audio mixer and values.

Your project file: The audio mixer slider of A1 shows ca. -25db, the value in the bottom field shows -13db. Kdenlive plays ca. -25db but renders -13db.

If you change the value of A1 in the field and enter -20db the slider show ca. -50db. Kdenlive plays at -50db and renders with -20db.
Can you confirm this behavior?

Yes I can confirm that behaviour and when I render the file, the dynamic range difference between the file and the recorded audio gets smaller.
By the way, yesterday I intentionally put the level of A2 too high so that the sound is being distorted, because I wanted to test how it sounds in the rendered file. Before zipping the folder, I forgot to make it quieter again, so you can put the the level of A2 to about 1.5 dB (in the field).

Is it indeed a bug in kdenlive?

In the top it says: Milestone Sep 1, 2020–Oct 5, 2020
Is the second date the release date?
