Hi All
I'm in need to create DVD on request from .ts files (SD, but some HD works too) recorded from a dreambox satellite decoder in the fastest way possible. My editing needs are few: some cuts and some alpha transitions so everything is fine and fast. However i was guessing how to improove the encoding speed. I actually have a intel core i3 processor running at 3.20Ghz with 4 cores. As i need to create DVDs my profile is 99% of the time 16/9 PAL VOB and the exporting time are nearly 1:1 (6 minutes for a 6:40 minutes clip) even using 4 threads and with no other job on the processor. So the question is, what kind of improovement can be done on software/hardware to speed up processing? Will an intel i7 help? Thanks all for reading |

i3 does not have 4 cores and yes, i7 would make a world of difference (actual 4 cores). Rendering DVDs would be a lot speedier with a i5 processors also, if you don't want to spend to much money.

"nearly 1:1" sounds very exquisite to my ears at the moment, as I'm doing about 4.2:1 (29min for 7min clip) on my Core 2 cpu, ubuntu 64bit. an i5 could be the direction i have to take soon.

slightly related, but this topic made me think of some software I use on Windows called convertxtodvd. Doesn't do the same job as kdenlive of course, just creates DVDs from video files.
On my i7, it creates them at 4/5 times faster they could be played, very nippy indeed, heavily optimised for multicore recently |
