Mistakes in rendering to .iso

Wed Apr 27, 2011 9:36 pm
I have a .kdenlive file that plays fine and has rendered to other formats. However I wanted to put it onto a DVD recently and did the "render to DVD" and the .iso file it produced isn't properly rendering some of the clips. It appears to be at a point where I used the "fade to black" and "audio fade" options, and it renders the whole clip up to the point where the fade should take place, then slaps in the whole of the following clip.

I rendered it in .mp4 format and it picked up everything fine. Why on earth would it "see" the clip differently based on the rendering output?!!

I don't quite know what to do about this. Anyone have ideas?

I'm using Fedora 13, Kdenlive 0.7.7.1...

Thanks for any and all help!!

A DVD has a PAL (25) or NTSC (29.97) frame rate. Maybe you chose a frame rate different than your project profile setting.

Everything was shot in 24fps (23.93?) so should I change that in the project setting? Will that make a difference? I was definitely rendering to NTSC DVD...so if that would cause this.

But it seems like if it were a frame rate issue it would be cumulative? Progressively more "off" as the dvd went on? It doesn't seem to be a problem anywhere but in this one spot where I had a few video effects. But perhaps they too depend on frame rate?

Anyway, if you can suggest a way for me to fix the frame rate so it matches that would be great. Should I start a new project and somehow import this one?

Very best and THANK YOU for taking the time to suggest something!! I'm on a deadline to get this video project finished so any help is greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

That was indeed the problem!! I opened the .kdenlive file, changed the settings to 29.93, rerendered to NTSC DVD and the vob file was exactly what I hoped it would be.

Now...I'd never have figured this out on my own. Any chance a future version could include a warning about matching the frame rates if you're saving to a format that isn't compatible? Just a suggestion.

Anyway, thanks so much for the help!!!

I am going to remove that NTSC/PAL option in the Render dialog. It is useless because it already knows how to default to the project setting, and it is causing people to make mistakes.
