Hi, I am struggling a bit with my rendering profiles. I wish to use a lossless free (as in freedom)format. I am very very new to codecs etc. its a bit of a nightmare!
I had just been selecting theora from the list of options provided, and getting an ogv file, but this is lossy and causes me problems. I read on wikipidea that dirac is the lossless codec that goes with the ogv container, but I cant find any mention of this in the render menus. I found FFv1 + Flac (both free) under lossless/hq, but that renders to an avi container, which is a Microsoft thing. Can anyone help me understand the problem here? Am I asking for unusual settings? I figured free software like kdenlive would make free video formats prominent :S best Anna |

You can use mkv, Matroska or ogg as the container.
If you use the ffv1 render profile as a start to create your own using the create new profile button to the right of the yellow favorite's star and edit profile buttons, you'll only need to change the avi to mkv or ogg, in the two cases where it's used, ie: under 'extension' and 'parameters' |

ok, so,
if I change both to ogg, I get a heart which says its a good profile, but then when i click render, a) my computer tries to shut down and b) I get an error saying its aborted cause it will prob be corrupted. I also tried ogv, as this was what they were called under theora, but that flags up an error saying its an unsupported format and won't let me render. If I try mkv I also get un supported. I suppose i need to download something? mkv is not in my available formats on my config wizard - however ogg is, and ffv1 and flac are there too - so you would think that profile would work? Any ideas? :S NB: noticed an error a little later saying that the decklink drivers are not installed, however i cant find these on muon or using apt-cache... any ides? |

decklink -
hi i found a page on a swis forum http://translate.google.co.uk/translate?hl=en&sl=fr&u=http://www.kdenlive.org/forum/decklink-drivers&prev=/search%3Fq%3Ddecklink%2Bdrivers%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dubuntu%26hs%3DY5t%26channel%3Dcs%26prmd%3Dimvnsa&sa=X&ei=V0IlULbnJMnJ0QXhmIDoCg&ved=0CHMQ7gEwBQ that i translated. deck-link is a video card - i am pretty sure i dont have this card, i just have a chip on my motherboard and no external card... they think its a bug in the new version? |

damn this is doing my head in today!
even if I dont edit that FFv1 Flac avi profile, i get this when i render: "No suitable decoder module: VLC does not support the audio or video format "undf". Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this." or a crash/stall in any other viewer. Some will play a few seconds of sound, but it starts before the video. |

ok, so i installed everything from here http://www.kdenlive.org/user-manual/downloading-and-installing-kdenlive/installing-source/installing-required-libraries under codecs that i didn't have (mostly dev packages) and its still not working. the avi one wont work, not will the ogg profile i made (i remade it just in case). I have rebooted etc.
not sure what to do next tbh |

I dont have this on my system, how can I update this?

Hi Anna,
this was my commit but the patch was sent by Lou Logan, which is where the knowledge resides ;) I tried rendering with the FFv1 codec as well right now, and I get the same «rendering crashed» error as you do. This used to work, and I cannot directly tell you why it does not anymore. Do other formats work? Did your distribution recently switch from ffmpeg to libav? Simon |

hi simon, thanks for reply - I use kxstudio, but its just Ubuntu 12.whatever underneath so I don't think there has been a change - but I don't know for sure (how do i find out?). I am so confused though, as my Theora basic setup on file rendering can render to an ogv without an issue, and yet an ogv profile on lossless wont work.
mp4 works ok on lossless/hq menu fine.... |

Ubuntu just switched over to libav from FFMPEG not that long ago. I'd wager Kxstudio did, too.

looks like kxstudio is still using ffmpeg, or perhaps both. I know that I just used ffmpeg2theora to solve a problem, but also, they refer to ffmpeg/libav recently. Kxstudio has a focus on having all the codecs possible etc. How might this relate to the bug?
