Hi,

The goal of this topic is to try to have rendering profile for screencast, which after can be transcoded or edited with other tools (as cinelerra, avidemux, compression tools). If we have a good result, we can add this rendering profile to the list (http://www.kdenlive.org/rendering-profiles) no ?

One rendering profile is for a 640x480 MLT screencast profil, the other for the screencast HD MLT profil (http://www.kdenlive.org/screencast-hd).

Screencast HD MLT profil / Screencast 640x480 MLT profil :

Frame width: 1280 / 640

Frame height: 720 / 480

Scanning: Progressive

Frame rate num: 15

Frame rate den: 1

Pixel aspect ration num: 1

Pixel aspect ration den: 1

Display aspect ratio num: 16 / 4

Display aspect ratio den: 9 / 3

1. It seems that the first step is to know which container to choose ?

Maybe .avi is a good idea ? What do you think about that ? Others could be added (.mov, .dv) ?

2. The second, to have a nice ffmpeg command :

I have no idea about that, i have tried this

f=avi vcodec=copy acodec=copy but don't run...

Someone has an idea of a good command to export a screencast without losing quality in order to compress it with other tools or edit it ? (render profil "apple quicktime player mpeg 42000k 2pass" runs well but it compresses a lot the video ; Avi DV and Raw DV seem not to be good as they are optimized for camera, dvd, or TV, with an screencast the synchronisation of the audio and sound seems to be broken, and the framerate is modified).

Thanks in advance for your replies :)

I usually use gtk-recordmydesktop with jack sound. I capture full frames and export to ogv without compression. You can also use kdenlive for these steps.

Then I edit in Kdenlive and export to a lossless format or Flash.

I guess there was a tutorial somewhere. Try:
http://www.vimeo.com/2234012 (part 1)
http://www.vimeo.com/2233013 (part 2)

With Kdenlive new version, maybe we need a revisited tutorial.

Tutorials are viewed on personal computers (Win, Mac, Linux).
So the best is to provide the suited formats for each station.
This is in Rendering->Video readers (or the like).

If you really need high quality, increase bitrate or choose H.264 lossless rendering.

Thanks a lot Jean-Michel for your reply, H.264 lossles slow and i-frame files transcoded works very fine in other transcoding tools.

Do you think it's a good idea to add a screencast lossless rendering profil with one of them ? (just adding and changing the name of one of this 2 render profile as for exemple Screencast lossless H.264). It can be more intuitive, no ?
