I'm new to kdenlive. I installed it on my PC running OpenSuse in the hope that I'll be able to convert MOV videos (taken from a Canon SLR) into an image sequence (TIF). The MOV is typically recorded at 20 or 30 fps and I'd like to export about 4 fps as an image sequence. I'm able to import the clip into Kdenlive but I'm not sure how I should export it as an image sequence. Is this feature present in the first place?
My second question is (if the image sequence feature is present) are the exact frames exported or is there an averaging or interpolation between frames? Thanks in advance for your help. |

In the render dialog, make a new render profile (icon is document with plus sign).
Group: Image Sequence Profile name: PNG Extension: .png Parameters: vcodec=png Now, choose to render with it and for 'Output file' put a '-%05d' between the base of the file name and the extension. |

Regarding the second question, the Project settings profile must match the image attributes to avoid scaling and deinterlace side effects. The images are exported based on the project settings and then render dialog options Scanning and Rescale may override them. As for framerate reduction, no there is no interpolation, just duplication.

Thanks for your reply. I tried doing what you suggested and I ran into a problem. The PNG images exported are incomplete. The top 30-40% of the image is ok but the rest of it is just black. When I load my clip the "Clip Properties" say that it is 1980x1088 and 29.97 fps. I tried changing the Project settings choosing various values of the video profile-
1080i 29.97 resulted in incomplete images having grid-like black gaps while the bottom 100 rows are black. 1080i 30 resulted in similar images but fewer rows in the bottom are black 1080p 29.97 resulted in images that do no have the grid of black gaps but only the top 400 rows of pixels are correct. The rest are black 1080p 30 resulted in similar behavior as 1080p 29.97 I'm curious as to whether it is detecting my movie clip correctly in the first place (1920x1088 instead of 1920x1080). Any ideas? |

I also ran into the "incompleteness" problem with some of the png files I exported. It's not consistent, so I haven't been able to trouble shoot.

Yes, your Canon video res is 1920x1088. But the bottom 8 lines are cropped off. Useable 8 lines theoretically. :-) |

If you can render fine to a video like MPEG-2 or MPEG-4, then it is a problem with PNG output in your version of ffmpeg.

No, sorry, that has not been implemented.

Hi there,
thanks for implementing export to tiff sequence. When I enter in the output file as / Also is there a way to have the numbering start from an absolute position if you are rendering a selected zone rather than always starting at 1? I was having a major problem with wipe transitions being reset to weird dissolves and had to render the timeline in pieces. I didn't realize that if you render a selected zone it will always start at frame 1 and overwrite files if you are not careful about giving it a different basename before the file number. If there was a way to tell the renderer to use an absolute frame position in the timeline that would be very helpful. thanks and great job on making this program better! z |
