I am using Ubuntu 10.04 and sanub's PPA for melt .5.6, using kdenlive .7.7.1 and ffmpeg compiled from source, FFmpeg version SVN-r25112.
My rendering percentage complete dialog that appears sometimes doesn't show percentage complete yet if I look at the terminal output after starting kdenlive from terminal it will show that melt is working and also nautilus shows the file being created BUT it seems to take way longer to render and sometimes the file is even corrupt. Is it because I am using a compiled from ffmpeg? Please help. http://lh5.ggpht.com/_Iufa0NM_vIQ/TJxYva_7KWI/AAAAAAAAAcU/6RyckTmi9Kk/s720/Screenshot-10.png is this error of any importance? this is very sporadic. sometimes the indicator window will work and it shows me the percentage complete and other times it won't. I have even restarted my computer, tried killall melt after kdenlive was closed. reopened kdenlive and clicked render again and still it just sits there with 0%.
BUT like I said sometimes it works. Right now as a matter of fact I am rendering something and the status indicator is working and and all is well. Not sure what affects it. Anyone help here? |

This is known to happen when Kdenlive is opened multiple times.
Does this also happen for you with Kdenlive only opened once? |

that's a good observation and that may be it. i also notice that it happens if kdenlive crashes and I use the "restart kdenlive" from the bug reporter thingy.
i also noticed that for some reason it will happen if melt is already being used for some unknown reason to me, possibly a previous what I thought to be a failed attempt at rendering??? Like if I notice the 0% waiting, I will check the folder the file should be showing up in and if it's not there then that means for whatever reason melt is already running, i check conky and sure enough, melt is running and taking tons of memory. i haev not unfortunately checked ps aux to see what file it's trying to render (maybe next time if I remember) There may be an easier way but merely restarting my machine makes all better. I have tried just closing kdenlive and killing melt but that doesn't seem to fix the issue. As i said it's very sporadic and doesn't do it all the time. Wish i could somehow nail down some pattern. Im still using the following versions: Qt: 4.6.2 KDE Development Platform: 4.4.2 (KDE 4.4.2) Kdenlive: 0.7.7.1 MLT melt 0.5.6 FFmpeg version SVN-r25112 libavutil 50.26. 0 / 50.26. 0 libavcore 0. 9. 0 / 0. 9. 0 libavcodec 52.88. 0 / 52.88. 0 libavformat 52.78. 5 / 52.78. 5 libavdevice 52. 2. 2 / 52. 2. 2 libavfilter 1.38. 3 / 1.38. 3 libswscale 0.11. 0 / 0.11. 0 libpostproc 51. 2. 0 / 51. 2. 0 I am going to check out .7.8 when my current projects are done in case something goes haywire. I will be using sanub's release PPA for kdenlive and melt and still unclear if i can keep my ffmpeg from svn i compiled. |

short answer : NO! in my ppas "kdenlive-release" and "kdenlive-svn" the packages are built on launchpad's virtual machines with the regular ffmpeg versions. You have to know that regularly the ffmpeg devloppment breaks API meaning that applications built against previous versions won't work as expected in an unpredictable way(without being an ffmpeg developer). You can track API breaks on ffmpeg git tree at http://git.ffmpeg.org/?p=ffmpeg;a=blob;f=doc/APIchanges ps : please my nickname is sunab |

Ubuntu 10.10 will be out on the 10th, and it has ffmpeg v0.6, which most people will be happy with for at least a little while.

well, it happened to me again. started up computer totally fresh, launch kdenlive from ubuntu menu. add some clips, do some editing, some composite text overlays, a screen transition for my video watermark, an audio effect to lower volume of my intro, a pan and zoom for my video watermark to get it moved a little, try to render it and the indicator just sits there at 0% BUT in the background conky shows melt running and I can see per nautilus the file is being created. after a certain amount of time all is fine, the file is rendered and complete and it's even uploaded to youtube. VERY WEIRD.
I know sunab advised against this as I am running FFmpeg version SVN-r25112 that i compiled on my own along with sunab's kdenlive-release PPA for kdenlive and melt but I don't see how ffmpeg could affect a notification status indicator. any thoughts on this, how do i track down what the issue is? this has happened now in .7.7.1 and now .7.8 of kdenlive |

other than build latest from source and run it in a debugger or with extra printfs?

it's still happening to me and I am using sunab's kdenlive-release PPA with the correct FFMPEG from the ubuntu repo's.
Here is what I am using for versions FFmpeg version SVN-r0.5.1-4:0.5.1-1ubuntu1 Qt: 4.6.2 KDE Development Platform: 4.4.2 (KDE 4.4.2) Kdenlive: 0.7.8 MLT melt 0.5.10 here's the infamous waiting screen http://lh4.ggpht.com/_Iufa0NM_vIQ/TL8JLRF7pZI/AAAAAAAAAkM/t6O9dwalMko/s720/Screenshot-23.png here's terminal output showing it's running http://pastebin.com/0QvNkb1c I can't believe I am the only one experiencing this? I wonder what's so different about my setup then others? This is a fresh session of ubuntu (after restart) and kdenlive. no duplicate sessions! kdenlive started from terminal. |
