Greetings,
I bought a Samsung HMX-H200 camera. I would like to edit my video files so that no re-encode, just there where the effects were applied. So, i would like the original 50 frames, and quality to save the edited video. Thank you in advance for your help. (Sorry for my bad english :-) ) |

You can not apply effects to your video without rendering (re-encoding) it.
Even if you work with pure DV material (frames stored as JPEGs), you will have losses because the single frame JPEG has to be decoded, the effect has to be applied and then the frame has to be encoded to JPEG again. Without rendering you can only cut your material and bring it into the correct order. But you need to do this with a different software, because kdenlive always requires rendering. But if you render the same bitrate as the original material, you will have only slightly losses. I guess even lossless codecs will not help if you apply effects or transitions. |

Hi,
Thank you for your rapid response. And if you only want to cut and merge, what to advise for? thanks, |

Cutting without re-encoding is only possible with DV and other independent frame formats, regardless of the software used.
With MPEG type encoding (HDV, AVCHD) you would have to cut only at certain frames. If you want to cut anywhere, at least partial re-encoding can not be avoided. |

So to clarify, can Kdenlive make cuts-only editing without re-encoding?
If so, in what format(s)? Thanks! |

I don't know about Kdenlive, for mpeg2 there was a program called "gopchop" that could cut at GOP boundaries, to avoid recoding.

Kdenlive cannot make cuts without re-encoding!
