I have just installed Kdenlive on my Ubuntu Linux pc. It appears to have installed fine. I got started fine with a .mov file, got it onto the timeline, then went to save it, clicked the Render button, selected Flash option but there are no valid save methods. Everything has a red X on the left and Render to File is grayed out.

Since no one else has replied may I suggest that you check that you have libmp3lame installed. |

Not so techy I am. I live in Linux but I'm not a sys admin type. How do you check this, through Synoptics or other?

I use mencoder with a mp3lame option and it works:
mencoder $input -of lavf -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=flv:vbitrate=1728 -ofps 25 -oac mp3lame -lameopts abr:br=56 -srate 22050 -o $output Is there something else? |

Maybe your build of kdenlive was not linked with libmp3lame enabled.
You may be better building the development version yourself rather than using your distro build. If you fancy that then there is help available in the "Building from source" forum. I'm sure I am not getting any topic reply notifications from this forum, yet I don't know why - hence the delay sorry! |

A lot of people have already asked this ...
If you have installed kdenlive via packages, you have to install the libavcodec-extra-52 package to encode to restricted codecs (aka patented in some countries : mp3, h.264 ...) sunab. |
