May be I found a serious bug in KdeNLive.
Make the following steps: (1) Create a project with HD 1080p 50fps (2) Import a file in MTS-file format (Panasonic HDV) My example: ftp://f004a8a0@alex-reiterer.com Password: datenaustausch (3) Export the project (as DVD or mpeg) The problem is, that the video is like in slow motion. The audio is correct. very strange problem. The original file seems to be a 25fps file, but KdeNlive is interpreting the file as a 50fps. The solution is to change the project before exporting from 50fps to 25fps. But this is not a serious solution. It seems that this is a bug....! Beste Regards, Alex |

I believe your video is actually 25fps, which is why you have fixed it by changing the project to the correct setting.
Let me explain. Your video is 50 interlaced frames per second, which actually equals 25 full frames per second. An interlaced frame is just half of a full frame, so it takes 2 interlaced frames, pieced together to get a full frame, hence 50fps interlaced is actually 25fps. Hope that makes sense! |

@alex00 further to moorsey who explained well, except being pedantic they are interlaced 'fields' not frames, two fields making a frame.
Not a bug, as your project settings are based on a 1080p 'progressive' template and you created a 50fps 'progressive' project rather than a 1080i 'interlaced' 25fps project, but if your source is HDV then that is not 1080p ie: 1920x1080 rather HDV 1080i or 1080p 1440x1080 based project, 1080i in your case. |

Thanks....but. When I am creating a project with 1080i (25fps) and I am importing one of my files, KdeNLive says that the project does not match with my file (see the attachment here). What can I do to create a correct project which matchs the files?
I tried 1080i, 1080p...without success. |

Hi alex00, What you should do is what I've been doing ever since it first appeared, press the CANCEL button. My default profile is 1080i 25fps which matches my Panasonic recording mode. Every time I start a new project, up pops that window. Just cancel it. As long as your Profile matches your MTS files it should work just fine.
To see what would happen, I accepted it once. I dragged a whole clip to the timeline and it showed twice as long as it should be, only the first half contained the video the rest of it was just blank. |

Thanks. So my profile should be 1080i or?
It would be nice if this behaviour would be changed by the KdeNLive developer. It seems that this is not very professional!? |

I can't see that you've actually said what your MTS files are.
My Panasonic book of words tells me that I can record in the following modes:- 1920x1080/50p......which is progressive and is 50fps. 1920x1080/50i......which is interlaced and is 25fps. I usually use the 25fps but what are you using? To find out what any video file is, I open the File Manager and right click on the file and select properties. It tells you the size and frame rate. |

I use 25fps. (50i) In fact that is the strange. KdeNLive says to change the project to 50fps.

The helpful message about mismatch of source vs project can be switched off under Settings -> Configure kdenlive. I had the same sort of problem with Canon DSLR video which is actually 1088 lines not 1080, what was worse that I created a 1088 project thinking that solved it but kdenlive or rather MLT, had been silently cropping the 8 lines off the bottom without mentioning it. :-)
Anyways rather than cancel it can be switched off. My Canon HV30 shoots progressive 25P but puts it in an interlaced flagged m2ts file, but it's two identical fields making the frame, no interlacing, maybe that's what your Pano is doing. If you're shooting 25P but kdenlive is interpreting it as 50fps, it is possible to force the framerate per clip in the properties if it's not possible to overide it in the project settings. But best to ignore, switch off helpful message and go with what you know to be right. |
