I have a youtube channel and I have bought an HD caméra recently. I know that 2 profiles are available in kdenlive for youtube (Youtube 640x480 and Youtube 1280x700) but these are not the best video quality possible (1080p HD).

In fact, in the specifications, we can see that youtube recommand this following config:

No Edit Lists (or you may lose AV sync)
moov atom at the front of the file (Fast Start)

- Audio Codec: AAC-LC

Sample rate 96khz or 48 khz

- Video Codec: H.264

Progressive scan (no interlacing)
High Profile
2 consecutive B frames
Closed GOP. GOP of half the frame rate.
CABAC
Variable bitrate. No bitrate limit required, though we offer recommended bit rates below for reference
Color Space: 4.2.0

- Frame rates should match the source material

For example, content shot in 24fps should be encoded and uploaded at 24fps. Content recorded at 30fps should be uploaded at 30fps.
Content shot in 720p60, should be uploaded at 720p60
Content at 1080i 60, should be deinterlaced, going from 60 interlaced fields per second to 30 progressive frames per second before uploading.


Mine is a 30fps. At the end of the page we can see suggested bitrates for uploads:

Type: 1080p
Video bitrate: 50,000 kbps
Stereo Audio Bitrate: 384 kbps


I have created a new profile in Kdenlive with this following options:

f=mp4 hq=1 acodec=aac ab=384k ar=44100 vcodec=libx264 minrate=0 vb=4000k s=1920x1080 aspect=%dar mbd=2 trellis=1 mv4=1 subq=7 qmin=10 qcomp=0.6 qdiff=4 qmax=51 pass=%passes

but I'm not sure that everything is exactly the same than youtube advanced encoding specifications! What do I need to change?

I also whant to know if it is possible to force progressive render by default.

Ps: encoding length is not a problem for me that's why I whant the best encoding options for my vidéos!

Progressive scan can be fored on the render dialog box, don't have it in front of me, but it is the option below where you select your outpur format etc

With the other stuff, I output to 1080 on YouTube, but just use the MP4 output at 18000kbps (or is it bps?!), this is the same as my source clips, so no point being higher. This seems to work OK and results looks good on YouTube, I think they do anyway! (http://youtu.be/AwpO_a-fDoE?hd=1&t=8m2s)

Your quite right, I have been a bit reliant on licensed music and have a few links for free music, but never used them much.

That link is great though, very much appreciated, have stored that and will endeavour to use it next time I make a video

Thanks for your answers! But I don't want something which looks good on youtube but something which is exactly the same than the advanced encoding specifications!

The problem is I am not a vidéo encoding expert, and I don't know how to write all the values (codec, rates, CABAC...)

Is there anyone who knows?

this is awesome, I have been wanting a new 720p camera for awhile. I have 2 youtube channels that upload many different thinigs. recorded desktop with commentaries on Ubuntu or Website specific issues and XBox 360 Call of Duty gameplay and Video Blogs. May I ask how you're able to upload anything better then 1080p and have youtube NOT scale it down to 720p quality in the end anyway? I don't see a need to get a camera better then 720p for ME anyway.

Any suggestions from anyone for a camera that has a great native video format that kdenlive works well with? I current borrowed my dad's Sony DCR-SR65 and it's format is MPEG2 BUT it's only 720x480. Thanks

My camera is a JVC full HD GZ-HM655BEU. http://www.jvc.fr/product.php?id=GZ-HM655BEU&catid=100255 it's format works well with kdenlive! (but I need proxy files because files are big!)

The problem with Kdenlive is that the highest youtube profile is configured with the 720p config. But youtube allows to import 1080p videos (with the spec described in this topic.)

If you use the Youtube 1280x720 profile, it will convert your vidéo in 720p. I whant more for my videos! (because my camera is a 1080p one and I need very high quality vidéos!)

That's why I try to configure a new profile (but It's hard to do!)

thanks for feedback but I still don't see why you want to upload anything more then 720p IF you want to upload to youtube.com. Unless I misunderstand youtube's site.

Youtube is a video host service. It allows 1080p videos. Is the reason a problem?

I'm not one of those which record bad quality videos from their TV screen but I'm recording artistic video, recorded with a full HD camera and I haven't got the same quality than the one I can see on others channels...

Just a configuration problem...

If I read the files from mu camera, they are in a very good quality but when I render them, the quality is very poor (with the youtube profiles available) that's why I whant to create a new profile for youtube with options for 1080p vidéo...

If 1080p videos are not necessary, they will not be allowed on youtube but at this time they are...

I use a simple high quallity mpeg4 stream with PCM audio in a MOV container for most of my output.

qscale=0.1 acodec=pcm_s16le

The MOV container is similer to the MP4 container but a lot simpler in terms of specs. It's not quite lossless, but it's damn close and much smaller than lossless. The best part is that almost anything can open this file. I have yet to find a site that doesn't take it.
