I have two problems left

When i try to render h264 it says
Rendering of /home/filip/kdenlive/untitled.mp4 crashed
[libx264 @ 0x7fe77448b040] [Eval @ 0x7fe77a9673b0] Invalid chars '.6' at the end of expression '0.6'
[libx264 @ 0x7fe77448b040] Unable to parse option value "0.6"

I can render other formats even MPEG-4/flv/webm etc.. but h264 does not work anymore.
I have tried re install melt,ffmpeg and kdenlive 0.9.8.6
I have tried running config wizard and it says:
The following codecs were not found on your system. Check our online manual if you need them: pcm_s16le,libfaac,pcm_s16be
Normaly this not a problem also it says i do have libx264 in my video codec and h264 in the formats.

I did and update from ubuntu 13.04 to 13.10 but some how it looks like libx264-120 is not working or available
in the database for some reason but libx264-123 is there and possible what kdenlive finds but dont use maybe ?

Any suggetions?

Just to confirm: I am using kubuntu 13.10 for a while now with the kdenlive 0.9.7 development version without problems until recently when there was an update of x264, since then rendering with H.264 crashes for me the same way as for you.

I'm going to try a downgrade to the previous version.

I am not really sure that http://ppa.launchpad.net/sunab/kdenlive-release/ubuntu works with my ubuntu 13.10 saucy.
If I had kept the libx264-120 on my amd64 computer the rendering would be working but it was removed doing
update.

the 2:0.123.2189+git35cf912-1ubuntu1 is installed and it looks like most other programs are using
libx263-123 but I only have a small ssd disk so i dont have the space to download and compile all the stuff needed
to compile the libx264 - I don't think the problem is related to my update except that it can see a libx264-120
in the synaptic repository but I can't even reinstall it but it looks like kdenlive is trying to use libx264-120 and
not the libx263-123 like the other programs do.

Anyway suggestions are welcome

The kdenlive sunab development packages for raring work fine for me on saucy, in fact much more stable than the 0.9.6 that come with saucy.

And what happens for me since the recent libx264 update is a segfault not only in kdenlive, but also in avconv and even in x264:

So I think kdenlive correctly uses libx264 2:0.123.2189+git35cf912-1ubuntu1 through melt/avconv, but that release is broken.

well its a problem now and I don't know to fix this.

I have two problems the speed funcion and the h264 rendering problem... maybe both of them are related to a broken melt.

I compiled the current snapshot of libx264 and it works just fine. I also compiled other 123 builds (they are from April 2012 BTW) and they all segfault like the ubuntu package.

The problem is that libav-tools are built against libx264-123 and don't work with shared libs of other builds. So the best would be to build libav-tools against a recent libx264, but that's quite some work so it is probably better to file an ubuntu bug and hope for new packages to be available soon.

It is quite annoying because H.264 encoding is completely broken since the upgrade.

A workaround for kdenlive could be to render to DNxHD and then transcode to H.264 with Handbrake.

What is your problem with the speed function (you mean effect, right?)?

I've rebuilt libx264 with --extra-cflags=-fno-aggressive-loop-optimizations as mentioned in the bug report, and that indeed fixes the problem.

Nice this fix worked fine here, it now renderes h264.

The speed function does work fine in some rare cases/projects - but Its normaly freezes at the first frame with the same picture at 50% speed.

From my experience the speed effect works fine (just applied 50% speed to a 90 sec. clip and it was okay), but it doesn't play well in combination with some other effects and for sure I know it does not work with a reversed .mlt clip.

Maybe it also depends on the source material? I usually use DNxHD, what did you use the speed effect with?

I use the Native MOV 264 from the 500D canon - but it must be a bug as it have been working fine before - speeding up and down.

Just made a quick test with the kdenlive-svn/ubuntu/ 0.9.7 and the speed function was working nice again here
This is all I have done a test with the same project - can speed down 30%.

I have not testet other stuff i use alot - like the align to audio etc... this one of the best things with kdenlive for me.
Because I sometimes record my audio using the smartphone or a zoom recorder.

I was unable to install the files on your dropbox account. There was an internal error. Software center, the cmd line using apt-get install -f also failed, as well as GDebi. I downloaded them all twice, failing both times. Any suggestions?

Thanks! I really need these files to use H.264 again. Running 13.10 here and regretting it.
