Hello, I have always been a kdenlive user and recently updated cameras, editing workstation etc. I am now using a Panasonic HDC-SDT750 (same as TM700, TM900, etc.) which produces 1920 x 1080 59.94 fps progressive scan @ 28 mb/s (NTSC not PAL). My new workstation came as a Windows 7 machine, before I setup a dual boot or other situation to run kdenlive I wanted some feedback here about the prospects of importing / exporting (rendering) such video and retaining full quality spec.

Can a custom profile be made? Does Kdenlive already accept such format or is it planned in the future? Can the software import .mt2s files? Will it export at full quality: i.e. 1080/60P @ full bitrate? And finally, and most valuablely to me - does anyone have actual experience performing such operations on kdenlive that they could please share? Perhaps the same spec video, even the same camera, etc.

Finally, if positive reports do comeback, what codec pack will be necessary to support the video? Many thanks.

I forgot to ask about audio. 5.1 capability would be nice. Is the software capable of import/export? Thanks again.

> most likely, AVCHD files from Sony camcorder work perfectly fine.

> Usually the necessary codecs come with installation of kdenlive as dependencies. Depending on your distro you may have to choose another repository with extended multimedia packages.

Thanks for the response. First few tests have gone good. Video specs look good, audio is stereo, but I have seen other discussions about that I will investigate later.

Do have another question though. In rendering, should I set the number of "encoder threads" to the number of physical cores or the number of actual threads? Planning to set to total threads - but also mainly I would like to know if I should look for a setting somewhere else in kdenlive to adjust for processing cores throughout the rest of the software? Is it utilizing mulitple cores during editing?

sadly i don't think mlt does multi-core previewing or editing. only when you click render does the software take advantage of multi-core's
