Hi all,
I am back to Linux video editing after a few years. I have the latest UbuntuStudio 13.10 and Kdenlive 9.6 works great.
I have a few questions:
1.) In order to work with Kdenlive to its optimum, is it recommended to run KDE rather than running KDE runtime on a xfce machine as I am doing now? LinuxMint KDE versions have always been nice ...
2.) Is there any benefit in using an Nvidia Quadro processor for Linux video editing as compared to a GeForce? I have two cards available for this puprose:
Nvidia Quadro 2000, 1024 MB, 128-bit, cuda cores 192, 5.0 GT/s
Nvidia GeForce 560 Ti, 1024 MB, 256-bit, cuda cores 384, 5.0GT/s
Which one would you use for HD video editing with Kdenlive?
3.) I see that the ffmpeg vs. libav confusion is still going on after all these years: My UbuntuStudio apt says:
"This package contains the deprecated ffmpeg program. This package also serves as a transitional package to libav-tools. Users are advised to use avconv from the libav-tools package instead of ffmpeg. Homepage: http://libav.org/"
However, as I remember, ffmpeg always worked just fine, but I don't know if the version included in UbuntuStudio is up to date, it is: "Version: 6:0.8.9-0ubuntu0.13.10.1"
Should I worry about this?

No, it should work just fine in XFCE.

kdenlive doesn't use the GPU for much yet, so a beefy graphics card won't matter. Steinar, the author of the movit gpu video filter library, has been working a bit on integrating movit in kdenlive, though, and I think he's going to present it at FOSDEM. So hopefully soon it will matter.

This is just the libav developers being assholes, ffmpeg is still going strong. And yes, that is the latest release of libav, it should be fairly up to date (the libav developers are usually good at merging in most of the updates from ffmpeg).
