Hi,
0.9.10 or 0.9.6 on ubuntu 14.04 is very slow when rendering a slideshow: while rendering of a 1 hr 640x360 slideshow to mp4 lasts about 3 minutes and a video file size 120MB, webm or ogv lasts about 25 minutes and generates a video file size of 400MB. My laptop: core i7, thinkpad edge, 12GB RAM. Rendering a "normal" video done with a camcorder with moving person on the video, all renderings to mp4, webm, or ogv last the same time and nearly same video file size. Are there some settings specially for slideshows? Or someone here who knows how to convert a mp4 to webm and ogv that can copy with a slideshow video? thx Eckard |

You question is very unclear as to what you actually mean.
Are you saying you have a created a slide show that should run for 1hr and that it took 3 mins to render it to mp4 format? And are you saying that if you render it to a webm or ogv it takes 25 mins to render ? And the mp4 format file is about 4 times smaller than the webm or ogv file? And non-slide shows render to same file sizes irrespective of file format ? This all seems pretty normal. Different encoding techniques have different computational requirements - hence the difference in render speed. Also different encoding techniques work better or worse depending on the source material. A slide show source material is very different from a moving head. Lots of frames are identical in a slide show. In a moving head no frames are identical. So some encoding techniques may work better on one type or source compared to another. Also - what bit rates did you choose for the different encodes? If you do not choose similar bit rates you will end up with different file sizes. |

i use handbrake to convert video files from 1 format to another, that uses avconv or ffmpeg for the conversion. OR you can try transmeggedon which uses the gstreamer framework for conversion. either app has a nice GUI to use. your other questions aren't very clear so i can't answer them
