Hi. I'm having some problems rendering under all codecs. It renders fine up until the last 2 second on the clock and then hangs there. Some time it hangs indefinitely, sometimes it just hangs for a very long time. My system is telling me that I have the latest version but account to the about window I'm only running version 0.9.8. I'm running Linux Mint 17.1 KDE edition which is based on Ubuntu 14.04 64-bit.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

When the very long time expires does the job complete? Do you get a rendered video in the end?

Yes. On the occasions where it stays at 99% for seemingly ages I do end up with a rendered video.

I have noticed similar behaviour.
I am wondering if it is to do with a 2 pass encode and the interface only tracks the first pass properly. And the second pass is happening while you are at 99%. How long have you waited before deciding that the encode has hung - in cases where you say it never completes? Are the cases that never completes larger projects? |

It's definitely more common on larger projects, but I've just rendered two 15 minute videos. The first was rendered in about 20 minutes, the second has been rendering for an hour (usually at which I'd call it quits).
This is really disappointing to see. As a semi-professional video editor I'd really like to see Kdenlive get to a reasonably stable status, but I've been waiting for over 5 years now. |

Just tried rendering on 2 pass. It didn't hang, but I don't if that because of the 2 pass or because I restarted.

Bitterness is contagious, should I answer?
You shouldn't blame only Kdenlive for breakings, but also MLT & LibAV. They all are trying to evolve bringing new nice things, but sorry we don't have such QA that we can garantee nothing breaks, on so many distros packages mixs (Ubuntu 14.04 LTS MLT/LibAV version are broken together by default !). Kdenlive & MLT try to support "semi-pro" features, but are terribly lacking development power. It's not just a question of raising money, but more of finding volunteers & good will. Coming back to try to find a solution : - do you use titles at the end of you work? it has sometimes shown very very slow rendering that I was unable to explain for now (a few gprof/valgrind runs away, but I have others thing ) - rendering is really done by MLT alone (Kdenlive just wrapping it to show a progress bar!), so to know what happens we need melt console output... and I just discovered you can get that log without juggling too much: just try to set a magic environment variable via "export KDENLIVE_RENDER_LOG=1" before launching "kdenlive" (from the same shell), launch rendering (once again ) and you should have a file in /tmp/kdenlive_render.log.XXXXXX growing with MLT output |

I've suddenly faced the problem with a test project that was working few minutes before.
I was running "melt xml:test.kdenlive" and it never exits after the last frame => something is going wrong in MLT. I'm trying to construct a simple testcase (using just color clips) to report precisely the problem (& maybe help fixing it quickly), if you can help in this process please don't hesitate... |

I selected 2pass but it hung for ages at the end again. As I was writing this it actually finished the rendering job. It took 1 hour to render a 13 minute clip with no titles or effects. That's very poor. It would be less frustrating if just the progress bar reflected the true time. I'm not entirely sure even asking for help is worth it. If the development for QT4 release has now stopped. I might as well ditch Kdenlive for something else. Are we stuck with a broken Kdenlive if we're using an LTS Ubuntu or Linux Mint?

PPA should work for Mint also, and it is needed even for LTS: LTS is updating only core packages, not universe apps like Kdenlive.
I will probably release a new KDE4 version (no cost for me, warmly asked by you & others), but for the moment there are not many things added to 0.9.10, and the problems reported are more linked to MLT for which I can't do much (the hanging "99%" are just melt's output)! And if you have a 0.9.12, how will you get it in your distro? You will need either

I've got the Kdenlive PPA which only seems to update to 0.9.8 on Mint 17.1
I attempted to remove the PPA to downgrade to a lover version, however the version which comes with Mint 17.1 (based on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS) is 0.9.8 (0.9.8-1ubuntu2~ubuntu14.04~ppa1) |

PPA:sunab/kdenlive-release contains 0.9.10 for 14.04 (which has effects mutlithreading disabled) + MLT git from 14/09/26 which should be better than 0.9.2.
True that kdenlive-svn is only 14.10 / 15.04 in KF5 flavor. I will ask sunab for a kdenlive-svn 14.04 with git KDE4 branch. |

I don't suppose you'd know why Mint doesn't see a newer version? I have the Sunab PPA added.

Any idea why Mint doesn't see 0.9.10 in the PPA?
