Hi, I've raised this in the Ubuntu forums but they told me to come and ask you guys. Editing files with the AVCHD codec is fine in Linux Mint, but after a switch to Xubuntu 15.05 AVCHD files being edited in Kdenlive have simply become unusable.
If I set one of the video clips into the timeline and try ad play it, it struggles and doesn't start. Here's the error log: http://pastebin.com/9CmMLj1i Do I go back to Mint where it works or is there a way to help me with this? Thanks |

I guess it is a library problem. Some more information would be helpful for us: Do the major kdenlive dependencies (ffmpeg, mlt) have the same versions on Xubuntu? Which kdenlive version are you talking about? Where did you get ffmpeg, mlt and kdenlive from? Do the files play correctly with melt <file>?

Kdenlive v 0.9.10. I don't know what the other version numbers are but everything is installed straight from Xubuntu 15.04 with no third party PPAs. I've seen this problem with previous version of Ubuntus so I was expecting this to be a more commonly known about problem.

I have to pass this over to some (x)ubuntu user. There were always issues with ubuntu libs that I do not have on Archlinux. Just wanted to check the basics.

As an Arch user, does Kdenlive work particularly well? I have a spare HDD which I could stick Manjaro on.

Just digged in wikipedia for manjaro... Sounds interesting, but manjaro does not seem to use the original Archlinux repos, so you _may_ get stuck in issues raised by manjaro repos again.
But to answer your question: I am running Archlinux with KDE since 2011 from the standard Arch repos and _never_ had issues like "missing codecs", "can not render to..." or other stuff. The maintainer of kdenlive usually delivers packages 0-2 days after official release and between releases after severe bugfixes. Since 0.9.8 I have had no crashes that I remeber - either there were none or the two or three did not hurt me. Last year I produced a larger project with AVCHD in MTS container using proxies (see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YUQG5zKHLBE) Archlinux takes a bit longer to install but it is worth it. But in a first shot, you could give manjaro a quick glance, as it comes with an installer. |

I had a similar issue too but at least my MTS (sony) files played.
My issue was that if you resized the clips then it seemed to play in totally the wrong position so you had no idea if you had the edit exactly where you wanted it. I ended up using Handbrake to convert to M4V.(high) I tried Transcoding in Kdenlive but the resulting files had sparkly artefacts in them ! |

Ok, I'm so annoyed with myself.
/Note to self : "Read The F****** Manual" <- I'd have completed this job probably 15 times faster (No exaggeration) if I had've done !! The answer is to enable proxy clips. It's now a joy to work with. |

Are you sure you don't have proxies enabled on your mint install of Kdenlive? Because maybe you are comparing no-proxy to yes-proxy situation |

Hi,
I confirm that .MTS 1080p 50 fps files are unusable in Kdenlive UbuntuStudio without proxy. Thanks to proxy ! I've another annoying problem with my .MTS files and Kdenlive: - I've recorded 1 hour video. My camcorder split to 2GB files, 1 file for a little more than 10 minutes. So 6 files for 1 hour. - I've imported those 6 files in Kdenlive, move them to Timeline, and export the result to get 1 file for my video. I expected to get 1 fluent video, but moving from one .MTS file to next one: - in Kdenlive, I saw 4 identical frames, without missing frame - in exported video, I saw 41 identical frames, with missing frames - in exported audio, between .MTS files 3 and 4, I've got 1,5 sec gap with no sound at all (just before video glitch) - sound / video are out of sync. Looking for one .MTS files with MediaInfo, here are some extracted data: Codec : BDAV Duration : 00:10:34.796 Codec : AVC Duration : 00:10:35.520 Codec : AC3 Duration : 00:10:34.752 Codec : PGS Duration : 00:10:34.975 I understand that it's not quite easy for Kdenlive to deal with those files, but how to make one single video now ? I tried to export audio to wav: - my .wav files are shorted than video in Kdenlive timeline... Any other work around? |

And are you on Kdenlive 15.04 or higher ? Because I guess this is a defect that you could report. See https://userbase.kde.org/Kdenlive/Manual/BugReporting If you want to have a chance of it getting fixed though you should work on getting a simple project file that demonstrates the bug. |

Before reporting the bug, please, could someone check to reproduce my problem:
- download .MTS files: http://dl.free.fr/sAvRKbemA (6,3 Go: 3 first .MTS files) and http://dl.free.fr/smNyp4KYP (6,6 Go: 4 last .MTS files). Files will be automatically deleted 30 days after last download. Those files show 1 hour of video + audio with a 10 ms counter recorded from my screen + audio (without any sync with video). - create a new Kdenlive project, full HD, 50fps - activate proxy, import files, move all files to timeline - move 2 sec before clip transition and click playback (or render the sequence) Problem I meet: - about 1 second without sound before switching from one clip to next one - about 1 second with duplicate frame after switching from one clip to next one Work around that fails: - exporting .WAV audio - importing .WAV to Audio track: 1st audio file is shorter than 1st video (about 1 second) - despite huge effort, I was unable to correctly cut files to get smooth transition from 1 file to next one. Hope you can check for this problem! |

How large are these files? Do they have to be one hour to reproduce the issue? Better chance of having someone look at it if the files are smaller.
