AAC is now VBR?

Wed Nov 04, 2015 9:04 pm
Hi,

in earlier versions my AAC audio was always CBR. Now it is VBR and the option ab=160k affects the maximum bit rate instead.

Here is a stripped output of mediainfo:

Rendered with recent environment:
Code: Select all
Format                                   : AAC
Format profile                           : LC
Bit rate mode                            : Variable
Bit rate                                 : 89.7 Kbps
Maximum bit rate                         : 160 Kbps

Rendered with earlier versions and current Shotcut (same MLT parameters) environment:
Code: Select all
Format                                   : AAC
Format profile                           : LC
Bit rate mode                            : Constant
Bit rate                                 : 160 Kbps

Bug or new feature?
I like to go back to CBR.

My recent Kdenlive environment is:
KUbuntu 15.10 with all needed -dev packages to compile the following parts to /usr/local:
ffmpeg @ release/2.8
mlt @ master
kdenlive @ master
I'm using the "mlt" suffix for ffmpeg, mlt and kdenlive.

Thanks
Christian

Not a bug. VBR is better

But you can roll your own render profile https://userbase.kde.org/Kdenlive/Manua ... r_Profiles

Yes, I know that VBR is better and I always use custom profiles. The question was why it changes unexpectedly.
With ffmpeg @ master I have now the expected result back (ab=160k > 160k CBR and not VBR with 160k maximum rate).
