KDEnlive 16.04.00: Quality loss after rendering

Hi all,

I'm using the brand new KDEnlive 16.04.00 (which is really great!) to edit the videos I made with my new full-HD camera and I'm really disappointed with the rendering quality although I used the best quality settings (generic MP4 H264/AAC) with quality 15.

I've made a crop of still frame, after rendering:

Original:

It's not exactly the same frame, but I think the difference is clearly to see.

How to get a better quality?

Ah, I found a workaround:
I deleted the proxy files in the project settings and rendered again: now it looks as expected!

I've never used proxy files, but it would seem to me that they should not ever be used in rendering. If they were, that's a bug

There used to be a rendering option in the rendering dialog where you could chose to render from proxies. I can't remember at the moment if it's still in 16.04; if it is, can you please check it's off? If it isn't in anymore, please file a bug report that rendering uses proxies when it shouldn't. Thank you very much!

The new version of kdenlive (update from today) doesn't have the proxy option in the rendering dialog. The version from sunday had this option. I saw it and rendered my file file with and without the checkbox checked and didn't see any change neither in output quality nor in file size. That's why I had the idea of deleting the proxy files.

BTW, the version from today has still the same bug.

Same here:

when I render directly to file:
no matter if I choose "use proxy clips" - proxy clips are used.
If I turn off proxy usage for clip in project bin - it works for me.

Also, command for generated script is the same and it uses proxy clip whenever I check/uncheck proxy clip usage in project bin :(
It matters for me, because I want to change manually framerate there for project I edited for a some time already :)

My version:
15.12.3
Using:
KDE Frameworks 5.18.0
Qt 5.5.1 (built against 5.5.1)
The xcb windowing system

It comes with the latest ubuntu lts.

Was this bug fixed in the latest version?

same problem

kdenlive 16.08.2
mlt 6.3.0 (git version)
KF5 5.27.0
Qt 5.6.1

I work with proxy clip because of stuttering video in the monitor, but the render is also with poor quality, I don't find any option to use the original quality of clip.

Hello,

you don't have to delete the proxy files to render the video with the original files.

Just use this trick which I posted here: viewtopic.php?f=265&t=136986
