Theora .OGV format : Please help

Thu Jul 13, 2017 4:10 pm
I really need to save a video in the Theora .OGV format. However, this is not one of the handful of render profiles that Kdenlive comes with and the Download New Render Profiles option seems broken in version 17.04.

Could anyone tell me what Parameters I would need for a custom render profile in order to render in this format? Pretty please? :'(

For me, trying to understand the MLT Documentation is like trying to read Greek. After a while, my eyes gloss over...

OGV is just a container... Is Theora the codec you want inside?
Looking back in older Kdenlive versions, I found:
<profile name="Theora" extension="ogv" qualities="9,7,5" defaultquality="7" audioqualities="7,5,3" defaultaudioquality="5" args="f=ogg vcodec=libtheora qscale=%quality acodec=vorbis aq=%audioquality"/>
I replaced Ogg/Theora with Webm/VP8 in the render dialog as it is more common & performant...

Thank you! It is appreciated!

It's perfectly understandable to add support for Webm/VP8, especially if it is common and has good performance. But, why replace Ogg/Theora? Why remove a feature that was already supported just because something better has come along?

The reason I needed support for OGV was because I'm modifying a video for use with a software feature that only supports OGV and nothing else - software which is recent, as in under continued development.

A recurrent criticism was that our render dialog was too complex, with so many choices… of course, multimedia formats/codecs/tuning parameters is a difficult question.
I have tried to guide users to the most common choices to make them happy nowadays, removing old things like realvideo etc… and Theora.
Extra encoding profiles should be made available for separate download… but this need users to fill it, and this is not such an easy task.
