Speed of saving a project in a lossless format

I am capturing projects with a black magic intensity pro 4k and it works great but the source files are HUGE. I have found the best end results by rendering with another encoder like avidemux or handbrake. As an intermediate step I have been saving the file in a lossless format and then rendering to mp4. The issue is the speed of saving the project from raw file to huff. No matter what I do I can't get over 70Mb/s (where a SATA port can max at a theoretical 600Mb/s) but the CPU is not the bottleneck, about 3%.

Is there a 'best format' to capture in the speed saving to lossless huff ?

Is anyone else doing this and have you found a better/faster format or method?

As an example of the speed issues a 10min clip takes 25min to save in huff format. It saves in raw format at about 180Mb/s and the 're-render' to huff is at 70Mb/s
