Hi,

I'm new to Kdenlive and am using it to make a slideshow of our family vacation. It includes a mix of photos (typically 6000x4000 pixels or 3840x2160px), some HD video clips (1080p 29.97fps), and some map transition sequences that I've rendered in Blender. I would like to produce a version that is in 1080p to match my current hardware and easy to share with others, but I would also like to future-proof it as much as possible, so I think I probably should also make a 4K version that preserves more of the detail from the photos.

What is the recommended approach for this? Should I configure my Kdenlive project settings for the best possible (e.g. 4K 60fps) and then render both a 4K master (for the future) and then separately render a downscaled 1080p version from the same project file?

Also, is there a reason not to use 60fps? There seems to be a lot of guidance toward using 24fps, but in my testing so far, using 60fps seems to give me the smoothest panning and fade-ins, at least when watching on my 60hz monitor. My test renders with 24, 25, 29.97, and 30 fps tend to create a jumpy, strobe effect when I animate across a panoramic photo.

Thanks,
Randy

Keep the 60fps. Your approach is correct: „configure my Kdenlive project settings for the best possible (e.g. 4K 60fps) and then render both a 4K master (for the future) and then separately render a downscaled 1080p version from the same project file”.

24fps is for cinema, 25fps and 50fps for European format, 29.97 for US old NTSC, 30fps and 60fps for US and presenting on computer and TV with 60fps.

As a rule of thumb: choose for your footage the highest resolution with the highest fps possible. Down sampling fps must give an even number: 60 down to 30 works.
