Hello everyone
I am new to linux, I have installed arcolinux (arch based distro) that I was testing in a virtualbox and using Kdenlive. All worked fine. Now I have decided to buy a new computer and installed same distro. I have a AMD 3970X with a Nvidia 2080Ti and cannot play a simple 2 seconds PNG sequence. A mov file plays smoothly (could be better) a mp4 file laggs in the first 3 seconds then plays smoothly (more or less) Whats is wrong with my system? Do I have to install something else? Why was this working fine in a virtual machine before, with a system far inferior (2013 Imac) than this new one? Help please Thank you P |

Hello,
You don't tell which Kdenlive version you use, on which OS, where you got it from... MLT Frameworks can rely on several libraries to read source media. Depending on build options, I believe the PNG reader may change and some are known to have very poor performance (I don't remember which). For MP4, there are also many types of encoding; some cameras use very long GOP's (number of partial frames before a full frame) that are very unfriendly with precise navigation & editing. Also note that regarding performance, the new 20.04 release coming very soon (beta under test, already most solid version ever) introduces "monitor scaling" that solves many problems. Regards |

Hello vpinon
Thank you for your reply I am using Arcolinux, an Arch Linux based distro and I am running the latest version of Kdenlive 19.12.3, downloaded from repositories. The thing is that I was testing this linux distro on a virtual box (that doesn't recognize the graphics card) before, on a 2013 Imac and Kdenlive was running smoothly, I could play 2 minutes long PNG sequences. That's what I don't get. I now have a much more powerful system and it lags... How can I check if I have all the libraries needed to play PNG's? Thank you so much for your help Regards |

Graphics sound drivers sometimes also play an important role in performance, maybe the virtual machine ones were more efficient?
To work around packaging uncertainties, we always ask to try with our AppImage you can download on our website, we know it best, it embeds all needed libraries in a safe state. Maybe try the stable (19.12.3) but also the beta (20.03.90) which offers the new monitor scaling. |

Hi
Tried out the daily build 20.07.70 and same problems, no difference... I ran the Config Wizard and it reports codecs updated, everything seems fine and no hardware acceleration found Shouldn't it at least detect my nvidia card? it's a 2080Ti... Should I be changing something in the Monitor config? What is the Real Time (drop frames)?? Thank you for your help P |
