Lossless exporting to organise raw footage?

Hi all,
I have a lot of family footage where I want to do a quick skim through and edit out all the embarrassing moments, dead footage, awkward comments, etc.
I want to organise it into a library of tidied up source footage - so that I can then come back through and reimport it for future themes.
EG: I might do a 2004 movie, but then in the future do a special involving a few moments footage from every one of my son's birthdays. That kind of thing.
Can KDEN live do a completely lossless export of a project? It's not like I'll be exporting and reimporting infinitely - but it would be nice to know that was almost possible.
I was going to use Lossless Cut because it has a lossless export function just for organising clips, but it doesn't seem to like my old 2011 iMac and Apple Quicktime .mov files.
Anyway, any help or suggestions are of course welcome.
Open source rocks!
