What is the purpose of the encoder speed in the rendering dialogue, please? It is not covered in the manual. Under what circumstances would I not want to encode as fast as possible?

seems that this is a little bit more complicated...

this mean that the encoder speed is affecting the final size of the rendered video (???)

As far as I know, the encoder speed affects the file size. If you give Kdenlive little time, the result will be a little bigger. With slow econder speed, the file will be smaller with the same quality.
That's why I always choose "peset=slower", because the duration of rendering doesn't matter for me, my videos are all very short.

Didn't test this one. But mostly doin' some digital converting quicker comes with more failures.
So beware. Don't always want to be quick. Give the computer it's time to do it good.

I see the renderer dialog has been redesigned. There is now an Encoder 'box' where I can set the speed. But there's still nothing to tell me why I would want to change the speed, or what the trade off is of using a higher speed. I now know that faster = bigger resulting file, but it took an awful lot of searching, and there are still doubts in my mind. Why not put something in the tool tip?
