Menu entry for rendering of proxy clips is greyed-out

I'm editing long duration 4K60 footage on a PC with 16GB of RAM, which is proving extremely challenging.
The obvious answer seems to be to work with proxy clips (or buy more RAM!), but the proxy clip option is greyed-out in the project bin context menu.
What prerequisites must I fulfil in order to be able to generate proxy clips, please?

In Settings > Configure Kdenlive > Proxy Clips check Enable proxy clips ;-)
