My videos are mostly recorded with mobile phone and latest version of Kdenlive wants to transcode frame rate.
Do you use encoder that it is build into Kdenlive or something else? When my videos are shorter I see no problem using the built-in encoder, but for larger files I am looking for an alternative, I think encoding takes quite a long time and files are getting big, from original three gigabytes to almost five. Which encoder do you use? Thank you. |

i'm also freezed by 50% of time during my workjob (usually i do some refinements to project waiting for the transcoding...)
these is my statistics using cpu: and this is using GPU (a poor and old GT710) i'm thinking to buy a new video card just for these conversions because the 16threads CPU can be beated (i think) by a nvidia GTX1650... reducing a lot times... do you have an nvidia GPU? can you do some tests? P.S. i saw that the MOVs generated files by "Intermediate DNxHR HQ" are generated very fast (half of the time?) by usually they are 2/3 times more large than using Lossy transcoding. Other Nvidia "Hybrid" jobs are better than using only CPU.. because audio is not processed at all... (why these options?) Using GT710 for video(no audio) is transcoding in 45 seconds. 7 seconds less than audio+video using only CPU |

I have no processing times to report but:
With this little clip https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Vm7Jjs ... sp=sharing whose size is 57.4 MB, kdenlive's transcoding (Lossy x264 I frame only) results in a file of size 88.0 MB. But using ffmpeg:
the resulting file is 19.1 MB (and gives good results when used in kdenlive). Other mp4 file transcodings are similarly much larger using kdenlive's conversion versus the above ffmpeg command. E.g. a 1.6 GB original became I think something like 5 GB using kdenlive transcoding versus 870 MB using ffmpeg. |

today i tried a transcode of the same clip using the CPU (1800x ryzen) and a Nvidia GT1050...
using only CPU .. 12 seconds using only GPU .. 7 seconds this mean that right now a Nvidia GPU can speed up a lot when working on variable fram rate using Windows. |
