With the brush-engines of MyPaint, Gimp and Krita, getting smooth anti-aliased lines aren't a given.

On top of that there wasn't a good variety of inking brushes anyhow, with too little stroke variance, so basically the first thing I did was try to make some nice inking brushes. They are based on inking tools I use traditionally a lot. So the brush, but also the elastic nib, the steel nib, and fine-liners.
I'm sharing them with you.

Uhm, I'm terrible with legalese, so I'll just note here that these can be used in commercial and non-commercial work, as part of a drawing or repackaging, and can be modified at own leisure.

I'm still trying to figure out how to unify the set more(I have no clue how to edit the icons nicely, for example), and what it can be expanded with, so feedback would be nice, or your own modifications.

I hope they'll be useful.

For the license, if you allow all ( adiviced for ressources ) it's CC-0 aka 'public domain'.
And about editing the preview icons ; just open the *.kpp file in Krita, and edit it as a image, then save with Ctrl+S.

Good work, very good and subtle brush ; I appreciate the subtle 'speed' sensor , and work on softness to work with pleasure at 33% viewport while keeping good AA at 100% . They worth, imo inclusion as default brush for inking tools with pixel brush engine.

Yes those are vey good anti-aliased presets, thanks for sharing.
Actually, first version of the inking presets where looking very similar, but I modified them to be sharper as I noticed it makes better clean lines results, even more on (very) high resolution work.
Though I remember we had a discussion on IRC with others who prefer to have anti-aliased lines, and I see how it can also be useful, so I'll include them in default set and have both anti-aliased and sharp inking presets (I'll probably wait the big preset update planned after LGM discussion about it to add them at the same time).

Ah, thank you for the feedback! I'm really happy that they are as fun to use for other as they are for me!

I updated the pack a little, they now have a more sensible naming sceme, as well as icons(even though they might dissapear if these will be included).
I also added a colour smudge brush(I called it the doodle brush), that I myself like to use for lineart in more painterly pieces:


It has a much more gentle line, which can be beneficial in softshaded picture like this.

I also added a simple readme.

Regarding the old brush being that way: I see. I guess it would remain to be useful to have anti-aliased lines for the fact that they can be useful when one has to edit a websized image quickly.

Wow ! super cool TheraHedwig , good work for the icons making them in the standard, and also for the blog post and infos. I'll download them, and I hope to see your brillant inking pack by default on Krita.

Didnt got a chance to say THANK YOU. I really like your marker brushes. Only thing I am missing now to fully enjoy inking ones is new build for windows with fixed weighted smoothing. Great job.

Installed the pack today , and tagged them.
Good work, the markers in permanent 'multiply' blending mode works great on a flat layer , and with your palette it's like using some copic markers.
The inking brush are fine, but I saw you exclude a part of the 'low pressure' totally. Surprising

I recalibrated my tablet today as described on David's Blog.. and now i just stumbled upon this post and tested the brushes and was a bit irritated^^ Low pressure - why isn't it working again grrmmll. But now i saw that's probably not only me that is surprised.

Beside this it's a great Brushset. The Multiply Brushes are really interesting and for me (especially) it's cool to learn more about brush creation

When you are inking with real ink there is no way that you can gradually make line from zero. The moment you touch surface some amount of ink is there - that's why excluding part of low pressure makes sense. At least to me

I would agree to this argument, but actually i have to apply a certain amount of pressure (the excluded low pressure) to get a stroke. So when i touch the surface, nothing happens^^ That is in some way the opposite of what would be realistic. Anyway it is no big deal to make a few adjustments to make it feel comfortable for me.

It is very realistic - when your pen is... dry

Today I will try brushes by Ramon Miranda. I am checking many but at the end always using like 5 of them

to be honest, I comepletely forgot I did this. My logic during brush creation was 'does it feel nice?' and fiddling till it did(and till it was sufficiently aa).

I might've done it because otherwise I got funny artifacts, don't remember...

@deevad, cool, but the light bluw blur brush is missing, wasn't it in the pack?

Anyhow, I'm glad people are enjoying it(slightly surprised to learn that the marker brushes are considered so special, I had ben using this logic for washes for a while), and I'll take a look at the pressure-curve.
