Is there any further update to the Blog post (https://krita.org/item/a-guide-for-krita-users/) that made reference to a new guide coming for 2.9? To be honest, Krita is so full featured but works just differently enough from PS, Painter and Gimp that a really good, clear user manual is the biggest thing missing IMHO

check the tutorials section.

There's also the wiki, but that is a one-man effort(mine), and I hardly get people's help on it.

What kind of help do you need? Content submission, maintenance, other....?

Maintainance. Anyone with a Forum account can also log into the wiki and add things that are missing, or change thing that have been changed.

Well...I'm recently retired and I've got a couple years doing systems and applications documentation using Wiki markup (MediaWiki). I've got time right now and I'd be glad to help out in any way I can.

couple of questions:

How is the content curated for accuracy?
Is there a submission/approval/publication process or is it purely crowd-sourced maintenance. ?
Are the devs providing documentation that needs to be translated for user consumption?

Let me know how you think I might be able to best contribute. Keep in mind, I'm just now learning Krita and it's mysteries, hence my initial request for a manual.

Well, it's nowhere near anything formal. So there's no content rating, there's no approval process, and I am technically a developer myself, so if I can't tell what a given feature is for I nag the developers I know worked on it, or go the code itself to figure out what's going on. There's an irc to be found under community at the krita.org page. Around european daytime you can find me and all other developers(and also artists) there.

Well if you understand media wiki, there's three things you can help with:

1. Identify content that is outdated. There's a couple of pages where things are missing or things are deprecated, but I have no overview what needs to change.
2. Add images. Some images are outdated, and other pages can use some more images to help the text, which by itself might be abstract.
3. Language check. I am a dyslexic ESL, so my language skills are not the best. If there's any dodgy sentences or words, feel free to change them.

Hope I'm able to contribute something to the effort. I'm a longtime Painter and Blender user. I discovered Krita a couple of months ago and have been really impressed. Am trying to move away from Painter now in favor of Krita and the biggest thing missing (for me) has been consistent up-to-date docs/user manual.

I added 2 annotated images to the Wiki this morning:

1] Popup Palette in the Interface section
2] Layers Docker in the Dockers | Layers section

My only issue is that when you put in text into the images, it'll be difficult to translate, but I am not certain how we'll work around that...

you're right. I hadn't thought of that. There is no work around for it. I'll leave them there for now and you and your team can decide whether you want to go down that road or not. The whole "picture is worth a thousand words thing" helps people a lot but I certainly understand the issue. Pretty much done pulling images so I'll hold off on annotating anything further.

@ Wolthera and Askinner, for translation i think using svg will be best. Like David uses svg for translations of his comic.

I just posted an SVG file at the bottom of the Pop-up Palette element of the Interface section. There is a single text element that says "Foreground Text". The text uses the Liberation Sans font which I read is supposed to be able to be manipulated by MediaWiki. We shall see...

However, I am not wise in the ways of manipulating my language to see if it translates so could someone let me know.
