The second tutorial is ready on UserBase now at http://userbase.kde.org/Krita/Tutorial_2. Sorry about the delay.

Wow, it looks great, thanks for the hard work! And uh... here is Part 3, or rather, the first part of an at least 3-part tutorial on brushes:
https://www.yousendit.com/download/WUJi ... a1d2eE1UQw This part is kind of short. Initially I wanted to stuff "Pixel brushes" into this file (because that's when the fun part Finally starts), but yesterday I finally decided to split both parts because when I started working on the Pixel brushes part, I realized that both parts together would be waaay too long. Still, I want to upload this part and the part on pixel brushes on my DA account at the same time, so I haven't uploaded this part yet, but that's just personal preferences, you can already upload this part to the KDE wiki or wait until the next part comes out and upload both at the same time. |

I like the part where it says that it's done without a tablet! Keep up the great work. Many users appreciate it. |

I do have a bit of a nightname that one day, someone will show up and comment "Hey, why are you insisting that everything can be done without a tablet? Everyone has a tablet anyway except for you!" I know it's irrational, but it's nice to have confirmation that the non-tablet users out there appreciate it. x D
I can get one, but I also know that this is not the case for everyone. I think there's nothing quite as discouraging for a non-tablet user to see tutorials for most programs start with "Okay first you set up your tablet..." By the way, Boudewijn, if you are reading this: I've noticed that for Pre-Defined brush tips, unlike with presets, you can only search tags, not the names. And since most predefined brushes aren't tagged, that means you can't really search them. I've recently made a list of pre-defined brushes as an appendix to the Pixel brush tutorial I'm working on, but it's a bit awkward that I can't filter the predefined brushes unless I tag them all by myself. http://white-heron.deviantart.com/#/d5jb7ti Can that be tweaked for the next release? Pretty please? |

Hm. that's strange -- I do use the search box to search by name myself regularly. I just tested with 2.5 and it works fine!

Really? That's weird, on Krita 2.5.2 on both Ubuntu or Windows XP, the search box for predefined brushes (predefined brushes in the brush tip section, not brush presets) doesn't seem to work for me. It's the box in the predefined brushes panel that says "Enter search tag here", right?
This works: - I select a brush - I type a tag in the "add/remove tag" part (like say, "veg") and press enter - I enter "veg" in the search and press enter That one brush will show up. However, none of the predefined brushes with "veg" in their names show up (and I know there are several others). Or am I doing something wrong? |

We must be talking about something different. Here's a screenshot:

Ah! Yes, it should work the same, but I guess that Srikanth forgot to check the other resource choosers when fixing the preset panel. It also doesn't work for gradients and presets. And I think that gradients, presets and brushes should also have a list mode that shows the name. Let's make a bug for this issue.

Splendid! Just what I needed. This bug will probably become pretty annoying when people start to import their Gimp brushes and have to search through nearly 200 brush previews (yes, nearly 200...) to find them back. D:

At work we cannot use any tablet because our "Administrator" does not allow us to install any new software on our computers As a result, none of us has a tablet Joking aside, I think that apart from a tablet, what is really useful is having a second monitor (on top of the one you use) By having two monitors you can keep all your tools on the first monitor whereas you use your second monitor to display your results. |

I don't have two monitors, but oh well, I think users with two monitors can figure out how to use both of them by themselves. Interesting bit on the tablet by the way.
Anyway, still working on that pixel brush tutorial. I'm still not done yet but it's already my longest one yet so far. :\ Oh by the way, among the many dynamics, some of the ones I've found most pointless are the HSV ones: it's far easier to just choose a foreground and background color and set everything on "Mix." There is one scenario where they could be very useful though: if they could work with brushes using color images as tips (I've tested, it doesn't do that right now). For example, if your brush tip is a green leaf with black lines, setting the Hue dynamic would allow you to vary the hue of the leaves while still maintaining that black edge. It's like you opened up the HSV editor and tweaked the image, except done automatically. Would that even be possible? I'd also like to confirm a few other dynamics: - Softness only seems to work with Autobrush Default or Autobrush Soft, not Autobrush Gaussian or Predefined Brushes. Correct/Incorrect? - I've tried a whole bunch of settings, but as far as I can tell the only part that works for Hardness dynamics is Threshold. The second bar and the curve settings don't see to do anything. Correct/Incorrect/Bug? |
