I am working on this portrait here. Now something looks really wrong with the hair, but I'm not able to single out exactly what that is. I think it is the shading and lighting, but for some reason I'm not able to do something about it. Also I want to ask, does the shading on the face look non-obvious? I need some advice. Thank You

hello! Well I've done a quick sketch to see where they can go the shadows. I advise to use hair brush hair, I rarely use a spray gun that will get more texture and drawing you are using a Wacom? or what have you done with the mouse? Kisses Yuli |

Thanks for the response. Ah the shadows, that was the problem. The hair brush? Is that a custom brush you made? I try to use a speckled brush for hair, but I obviously need a lot of practice. One more question if you don't mind. How do you manage to make those almost metallic textures? Mine always end up looking like clay. And also the background texture, what did you do to achieve that effect? I figure there must have been more to it than just smudging. No, I don't have a tablet yet so everything's done with mouse. Thanks for the help again |

ok
One of the most important reasons why we do not get these effects is to use the mouse ^ ^ Also I advise you not to draw with the mouse, if you use it can cause damage to the hand ok, I use the version 2.4 ... I know of other versions. this version is very good brushes such as "rake_paint_texture". for the effect of background paint in the multiply layer over your drawing. trying to get a pencil to your pc and see how they improve your paintings. and sorry for my English is very basic I'm an idiot for languages :__ And congratulations, your drawing is nice if you used only the mouse Kisses yuli

Is that so? The drawback of drawing with a mouse that I've heard as of yet is that it slows you down, but this is something new. Thanks for telling, I'll research more about this.
Ok I'll keep that in mind. I've seen the rake brushes but never seriously considered using it. And the multiply mode.
I'll surely get one when I'm good enough. Thanks for the help again |

No, it is perfectly alright. I'm not a native English speaker either. In fact I'm grateful to you for taking the trouble to explain me something in a foreign language. Thanks although I still have a long way to go. |

The main problem I see is a lack of shadows and hilights. It's all fairly mid-tone.
