Ah, is that the epidermis in the layer stack? :D

Hm, I think, when doing this kinda stuff, you shouldn't forget to take care of your shadows properly. Try to increase the contrast and increase the sharpness of the shadows to express the form of the face more delicately.(you can do this with an overlay-layer and some greyscale tones) It will do a lot of good to the hair as well :)

I tried to show epidermis and dermis ;D

Thanks for the suggestions. I had the most difficulty with combining, 'merge with layer below', and
fell back on my first grayscale layer. I'll try overlay but hair is for the future. My main interests are
in patterns, surfaces and lighting. :)

Good advice. Overlays and fixing the grayscale helped, Thanks. ;D
