Thanks, Krita!
I've been working towards doing my comics digitally, first in MyPaint, and then in Krita. I have to admit that I jumped from MyPaint mainly because I kept losing files in MyPaint, and I put off Krita because it was, er, harder. More stuff to learn, and all that. And it wasn't immediately clear how to get a smooth line (my used Wacom is a bit pock-marked, so it's a little difficult to begin with). I've done quite a bit of stuff in Krita now, and haven't lost a thing! The backup system works great, and there have been a couple of close calls. As much as I love MyPaint, I was becoming a nervous wreck because of randomly losing hours and hours of work, no matter how carefully I tried to keep up with making lots of redundant copies. So anyway, it took a while, because on top of learning so much new stuff, I kept revising and tweaking brushes. I finally wound up with one sort of "magic brush" that works equally well for pencilling the drawing and doing the final inks, as well as the borders and the balloons. I worked up some Speedball-like pens, too, but in the end I've relented and gone to using a font from Blambot. This is the first page in a short story, so there'll be many more to come. I used to do all this on paper, but I feel I'm able to do a lot more digitally, especially now with Krita. |

Awesome! It's great to hear you are enjoying Krita. Could you share your brush preset with us?

Absolutely! I'm going to go ahead and zip it up with some others, shortly--my lettering pens, and a modified painting brush that I'm using for my color work. I should have thought to post this, too. I'm doing pretty much everything in Krita, lately. |

Strange, I never lost anything in MyPaint,
You may be interested in this site http://www.fontsquirrel.com/ that collects fonts free for commercial uses. IMHO the first panel could use a bit of grass/shadow/pebbles/whatever near the character's feet. Just enough to "ground" her so it doesn't seems she is floating in a blank void. Good luck with your comic! |

I have been playing around with Krita since I installed some weeks ago. I honestly think it is VERY impressive. The inking brushes/pens are the best digital inkers I have tried so far. The smoothing functions are the best! And not only that; I can fill colour on the layer under the inking without doning selections (if there are no glitches). That really speeds things up....!
I like your style and storytelling. Great drawings. Nice to look at! Very nice. |
