I made this image for a test in Krita. The top layer is text, below that = the bubble. Under the bubble comes the line art and below that the character colouring. Background colour layer is separate. Making cartooning is easy using fills on separate layers without selections or masking. I like that very much. I have to test some shading in my next picture. The text tool though, is a bit odd. When I hit the Enter key to move to the next line, the text marker jumps up and out of the text box. The justification is not working properly inside the text box. Can anyone confirm these behaviours? I have to test it a little more to find out how the text tool works, but it sure does not behave as standard Windows text tools (like in Photoshop for example). Anyway; a great Cartooning software as I see it. That's what I like... |

This picture was done in this way: the top layer is the INK layer. The layers below are colour FILLS, one item on each layers. The legs on one, the socks on one, the slippers on one...doing the fills with a little expanded selection (+2) and the treshold by 80%. That makes it very easy to fill and leaving no gray (unsaturated) pixels along the INK. To add shadingb to each element it is just to lock the transparency and shade. I love it! No selection done, no masking done. Just fill and shade right away. Nice one Krita! |

Yes... The text tool _is_ odd. It really needs replacing, I think. However, that's kind of a long-term plan. First we want to release 2.9 in December, then port Krita to Qt5 for 3.0 in March/April -- and then, yes, then it's probably time to find some funding for serious work on the text tool! |
