Very nice painting. I was going to ask if it was Shakespeare, but then I remembered there are known paintings of him are there? And that collar may not have been been from his period; always hated those collar designs. Wonder if they were supposed to stop lice from climbing up the body to the head? Sorry, just thinking out loud.
