I recently switched to Krita from Paint Shop Pro 14. I've been using Paint Shop Pro since I was around 12 and it's a bit of a shock, although many of the functions are very similar. I was finally able to get satisfactory results, however, and painted this over the weekend.
More info on the subject and better resolution here: http://elibertylewis.deviantart.com/art/Traitor-646997309 It's interesting to me how the brushes differ. In my old program, they were less smooth, but more feather-able. That is, I was able to soften the edges to almost nothing, even at a very small size of brush, and in Krita the brushes seem to be much more solid. That resulted in a few blending problems, which I sort of solved by mixing a color in between the two colors I was trying to blend and painting across the middle with it. This was made easier by the black and white medium, but I'm not sure how well it's going to translate into color. I think I'll do a few more black and white paintings first to get the hang of it. I've only done two or three "serious" paintings since getting my tablet early this spring, so I'm pleasantly surprised by how fast I'm progressing. Now to just find another inspiring subject. |
