I haven't drawn or painted anything in more than 30 years (and all I did back then as a teen was sketch with pencil and pen). I decided recently (a couple of months ago) I wanted to get back into art and I decided to do it on digital media because technology in art has come such a long way.
I purchased a small Wacom tablet and then I tried using GIMP first but I struggled with it until I saw mention of Krita and decided to give it a try. For the past several weeks I have been familiarizing myself with using Krita (and watching lots of youtube videos) and after practicing with it I tried my hand at a few studies of a nose. These were done with Krita 4.1.7.
My goal with these studies was to familiarize myself with using the brushes in Krita (and specifically blending techniques) to see if I had any hope of succeeding artistically with digital media. The first was done with the charcoal pencil brushes, then I tried the watercolor/waterpaint brushes, and finally the other paint brushes (trying to simulate oil based or acrylic based paint). I have more work and practice to do before trying to complete a full composition but I think I may get there as my comfort level increases.
I just dowloaded Krita 4.2 and I'm excited about the performance improvements and the changes to the brushes, I know it will help me to continue to improve.
