After this thread ( install/compile Krita for ubuntu ) I open a thread in the gallery to post my experimentations, and give visual feedback of the tool I try to the team.

Here is my first and fast **** tiger test :
1st :

Wow! I didn't see it was a tiger until I took a step back-- when I was too close to the screen the white hair above the eye looked like part of a bird's head, and the stripes didn't clash with that either

You seems to use hairy brush for it. Cool. These days I'm writing thesis about my brush engines, can I include your experiments in my thesis? So far I like this one very much!

What brush engines did you use? Hairy brush + Pixel Brush?

I added recently option to have connected path of the bristles in the hairy brush but the sources are in different brunch. http://valdyas.org/~lukast/connected_unconnected.png

Some tips here:
* if you don't like the ink depletion and you like to control the opacity only by pressure: setup that curve in Ink Depletion so that it is horizontal line in the bottom. The curve shows how the bristles run out of the opacity.

* density controls the amount of the bristles in the brush

* threshold paints only with bristles that are long enough according the pressure from tablet
The length of the bristles is setup according the brush mask and it's opacity

Thanks for the tips about the brush, and yes mainly Hairy brush + Pixel Brush for this first test. I will test and try painting with other settings soon. I have to explore. I like it.

Any chance of getting a copy of the .kra for Krita.org's showcase?

Some inking test with the pixel brush ; good feeling, and nicely customisable with the curve for the pressure on the size. I like this details for user.

@kubuntiac : I saved as jpg directly as I usually do for my sketch , sorry no *.kra. I will think of it if I do more advanced work.

Ah, ok. No worries. Apparently the showcase is only supposed to include .kra's so people can learn from them.

Poeple learn from *.kra files cause of the presence of the layers ? Or there is a system to replay all the strokes inside the file or something I don't know yet about the *.kra ?

Hi, new test after updating. Don't have a lot of inspiration but I wanted to test painting with the round brush ( pixel brush ) and play with ratio/opacity/diameter. I took the first object I found on my desk, and I failed the base drawing, so it's look a bit out of perspective. But I liked to paint the glasses reflection.

What have you used for the sand on the glass in the lower part?
It reminds me a little Softbrush+density or maybe spray with pixels as particle type?

Actually it both Softbrush+density and Spray. At the end I added a sharpen filter on a duplicate layer ( I got 2 crash with duplicating layer , but select all /copy/paste work ) to enhance the details ( I erase on this new layer the part I want to be more blury ).

Next one I will surely try a charcoal like test with the Softbrush+density.

Lol. No idea. I'm just repeating what was said to me when I was setting the site up. The .kra-only decision wasn't mine, but I respect the wishes of people who've contributed far more for the project than I have.

Of course, we *could* just open the .jpg and save it as a .kra...

Actually now you mention it, I believe there *is* (although I've never used it). OK, really it has nothing to do with .kra (which voids the whole point, but moving on...) you can go to Tools -> Recording -> Start Recording Macro. When you're done you do Tools -> Recording -> Stop Recording Actions and it'll save a .krarec file.

Would be fun to see someone actually use this to record a painting being created!

Anyway, love the mixture of rough painting and fine detail on your new piece. Thanks for sharing how you did the sand. I was wondering that myself!

Yes, it's mainly the layers that are helpful to people, I think.

Thanks for the reply. As I still work flat ( 1 layer ) I don't think it would be useful to post the *.kra
Today I tested the soft-brush with the density parameter. I did 2 preset , and worked with the "x" key to switch from black to white.
I went to the living room to find object to put on my desk. A good exercice.
Krita behave fast , I painted on a 1680x1050.
