Done on a kubuntu 10.10, krita 2.3.1 with pixel brush, tip "A3 abstract texture 2". I like the brushes (although only NEED pixel brush), but would like to have a easy to use assist system, sort like snap to active path in GIMP cuz I can't draw nice line for lulz. Also, a blender/mixer would be a god send, the smudge brush is a litte too powerful (ie too smeary, and no texture). Now, can someone enlightening me on the virtue of painting 16bit? 8bit in gimp is fine for me and I don't if ever use filters/effects. I'd like to say to myself: "welcome to the FREE neighborhood." |

Looks great rachepatty! You've got a good grasp of anatomy and tone there. As far as snap-to guides go, pretty much that exact feature was added just recently, although I'm not sure if it shows up in 2.3.1 or 2.4. Take a look at http://krita.org/component/content/arti ... r-in-krita and look for the bit just above the screengrab image.
There's also been stuff happening on refining the smudge brush and I hear rumors about possible work on a mixer as well. (I think Pentalis was looking into this for GSoC?). Anyway, welcome and thanks for sharing your artwork. Looking forward to more! |

As for the assisting system. There is one in Krita too. In 2.3, it is not so good, it has been vastly improved for 2.4 But in 2.3, you can use it for line drawing, if you look for the tool assistant in the toolbox, then you can create "rulers", and move them around. And then you need to check the "assistant" box in the freehand tool option, and suddently your drawing is snap to the line (and you can define how close it should go to the line).

To Kubuntiac:
Thanks for the compliment! The new assist feature is unfortunately not in 2.3.1, so I'm realy looking forward for 2.4 right now : ) A better smudge or mixer will be very very nice. I'm also doing lots of life drawing classes, so, as long as the board doesn't prohibit nudity I can post more. To cyrille: Thanks for the head up! Unfortunately the assist ruler doesn't do anything for me, I can't draw a line or any drawables on the canvas. To Dread Knight: Thanks~ To slangkamp: Thanks for the article! Maybe cuz GEGL is already partially enabled in GIMP or my eyes are more blind than I thought, I don't notice the banding, not much anyways. |
