Very nice! Lovely details.

I look forward for the making of. Some video would be cool.

Which brush engine do you like the most, which one do you find
the most useful - or make the question specific: which was the most useful for this Girl with a puppet?

Do you mind to share your favourite presets?

Oh, wow O_o.
The final outcome is absolutely impressive.
The color is really great. Especially in the stone structure with all the fine color/light nuances.
Did you use some kind of reference?

Re: Challenge! Girl with a puppet

Thanks for the comments and the good feedback.I am defining my workflow in Krita, but i have found some brushes specially good for this type of painting.I am making a Zip with all these brushes and will be public as soon as posible. but for the moment a review with some data of the most used brush engines.(with no special order.)

-Pixel Brush
I use this brush engine as "glaze" painting. When i have to paint but without loose the content or the sketch that is behind. I use also as a block brush because creates good edges and when edges overlap ,then you create a more rich textured look.
Pixel brush is very fast and i think lot of artists use it as a basic due the lot of parameters we can manipulate.

-Duplicate
In this case i was rebuilding again and again the wall texture, to achieve a realistic look, and that takes more time if you don´t use any photo with overlay mode or something like this. We can use predefined brushes, but if i want to clone a part of the image ,this is faster.

-Hatching Brush
I used it here to create clothes texture, and a bit of shading on the sketch. But the main use here was the lingerie parts (arm and leg). if i have to paint all this lines it would be insane. This way i save time.

-Color Smudge Brush
The particular behaviour of this brush is very useful for Soft "creamy" shading. Specially on skin, clothes, and hair. I use it as a paint tool and blender tool at the same time. Low pressure only smudge colors (blender) High pressure applies color (paint tool) this saves time too and is good if you want a perfect blend between different tones.I give my preset to Animtim and he improves it correcting some ramps.

-Sketch
Is Fast, good looking, and very versatile. This image is a bit oniric or surreal for me. So i use this brush engine to make the sketch "loose", not too much defined. I tend to make things more "organic" with this brush. I get lot of texture easily. Sometimes i draw things by myself and sometimes the tool draw things for me. so for me in this picture it was a must.

Favourite Blending modes for this picture.
-Normal.
The main mode.
-Multiply.
I use this to darken things controlling the hue and protecting the textures that are behind. It is specially good for shadows on the wall when the wall is painted.
-Addition.
I use this to make Glowy things, glares , and changes on hue lighting.I talked about this mode previously. I use it with a big soft rounded brush.
-Substract
Is the opposite to Addition mode but woks in the same way.
-Overlay
This is good to change the lighting, make brighter or darker, depending the color you use. Create more contrast between tones. i use this to make some parts of the rocks brighter, or darken, afecting the hue.
-Softlight
I tend to use this to make soft changes on skin or different parts on the background.it depends.

I have lost lot of time changing to one mode to another. when the favourites blending mode work, this will be easier. Of course we can make diferent variants of the brush saving the blending mode, but i realised of this too late :D

@plassy:
For the references, all the details come from my imagination because in this picture, i have the main idea in my mind, and as i was painting , the idea was changing too (what type of flowers, what type of wall texture, what type of hair shading...) There is lot of improvisation, because here i hadn´t the problem of time and it has been very fun to paint it. ;D

Finally I sit down and read all this, really nice Ramon, just a good work, thanks a lot for all this information, is very helpfull. By the way, are you planning to do a package like gps for krita? I would like to have more presets, I still have to learn more how to create them, I already delete by accident 2 of them and now I cant get them back :(. Keep it up.

Hi there!

I have made public the pack that i used for this picture. It contains about 30 usual presets (and not so usual ;) )
Inside the .zip there is a readme.txt explaining how to install the brushes and presets.

Wow. Thanks for sharing these, Ramon! Is there a reason to make these available as a zip file rather than uploading them to Opendesktop.org through the presets docker? That way anyone could install whatever they wanted with just a couple of clicks, even if they never found this forum thread...

I think they are not finished, so it is better to spread them internally. this way ,you can test them and give me feedback. When i finish the package with good icons, license cc 3.0 by and a bit of more refinement, i will share them again. nowadays i am remaking my Web, so i have to wait a bit for that.

greets ;D

Starting on a transparent layer would be a good start.
