When I begins to try Color Smudge brush engine, first I noticed that it does not work with Krita 2.4 interactive Mirror modes. But I not long stayed in sorrow, since I discover that Color Smudge works fine with Multibrushes tool, which is even more powerful than Mirror mode. So I paint this... Just for testing. :)

...But the main task for me was to find a method to effectively work with multiple objects of different colors. And this is one of the experiments this kind:

Brush used - the same as above.

Next, I will illustrate the essence of this task.

First, I paint color patches approximately in the form of the objects:

Practically, I use for that B/W layers with a Color Adjustment filter masks (those with curves).

Then I put another B/W layer above with some of "light" blend modes (this used Hard Light), fill it with neutral gray (128,128,128) and paint shadows and highlights:

Another one similar example, but with slightly different layers structure:

All my stuff in this thread is licensed CC BY 3.0, unless otherwise noted.

In this experiment, I paid attention to the reflections and self-reflections. Special layers called "Reflexes" are responsible for this.

First picture is awesome! Very nice use of multihand tool -- I plan to blog about it as I wrote that tool, but I plan to make it much much better. And yes, color smudge does not work with copy-mirrored mode in toolbar, but works with multihand tool.

Daylight is coming...

Thank you very much, Lukas, for such wonderful tools as Multihand and Sketch brush! These are of my favorite tools. :)

Please excuse me for a pause, but it was caused by further research, both in colorization techniques and in creating new Color Smudge presets. My goal was to achieve a bright, rich colors, combined with nice and textured shading and transparency for composing.
Now I present the latest examples:

For the convenience and flexibility, I usually separating shading and coloring, so the question was "what is above", due to nonequivalence of blending modes when applied to B/W or colored layer.

In contrast to the previous examples, where I put the shade layer with Hard Light on top, here I put on top the color layer with Soft Light and cared of increase saturation, as Soft Light gives low saturation. But, I like Soft Light for a nice soft nuances... So I use it although of some additional efforts needed.

Trying to apply in practice this technique, I want to introduce you to one of the directions of my current work:

I name it, say, "Harbinger of Naglfar". It's W.I.P. for now.

Full version here.

.kra (sorry for big files, it's because I work in 16-bit color)

Since my skills in marina* is too poor as yet, I continue "vegetable theme".
It is... kind of alien luminescent plant. :)

Or not luminescent...

Now I use separate layers for two light sources: cool and warm, both in Screen blend mode. Color is above and in (my favorite) Soft Light blend mode.

Self Illumination layer(s) is lowest and curve-colored from black (no illum) to some gradual changed color.
Additionally, this layer serves as a mask for above layers (with alpha channel turned off).

*"Marine art", I mean. Excuse my English. :< ;D

I have never used such tools for oil paintings and I used to complete these paintings by using brushes and oil colors. But now that such a technique is mentioned here, I would try my hand at this as well.

Yes, ALeXeY(akaNord3D) used Imageshack to host his picture back in 2011 , I used this service too.
But the service closed ( or changed business strategy ), and replace now all the pictures on forum with this message ( but if one click, there is nothing after , exept adv ).
