Hello and welcome to the Monthly Drawing Challenge of April 2018, after a two month break!
The winner of the last challenge (January) was gui-m, exact results here: viewtopic.php?f=277&t=150439

This month's winner-selected topic is:

Spring Season

Don't forget to use the hashtag #kritachallenge on social media to talk about this challenge!

--==How the challenge works==--

The topic changes every month. Every image should be somehow related to the current topic.
It would be nice, if you could also add an explanation, how it is related to the topic, if you think that it is not clear from the image alone.

You can submit your image until the 25th of April, 12:00 pm (noon) UTC, by posting an image as answer in this thread.

Collaborative works are allowed.

After the drawing phase, a poll will be set up and forum users can vote for the winner.
The poll will run for 7 days, the winner will be the one with the most votes until the end of the poll.
The winner will have the privilege to choose the topic for the May challenge!

When there are multiple winners, all of them will enter an own topic, and I'll use a random generator to select one single of those topics.

First idea was a horse shaking snow out of it's mane, as the ice melts and spring begins. Bit ambitious at this point, tbh, lol, with all the mane/ice stuff. Just wasn't working about the background either, so redid the full background. I think the snow/ice melting bit is still proving challenging ['must practice' note-to-self], but the horse was fun, and the new challenge of zooming out to include more background. :-)

The sketch took the longest at first, but was thrilled to discover the ipad's Sketchbook Pro pick out the 2nd stage, of clean ink with pencil erased, when take a photo using it, instead of needing to follow complex Gimp instructions; brought that structural transparent png into Krita. Horse colouring was straightforward. The landscape took as long as the horse. About 6 hours in total.

I am excited that the monthly challenge is back. My submission for the 'Spring Season' topic includes a piece of me (My hand to be exact), opened to invite an Eastern tiger swallowtail butterfly (North Carolina's state butterfly) to land. The background is intentionally a soft gray/fog color, which symbolizes Winter. I included a rainbow to help lighten the overall mood of my work and to memorialize an event that took place when I visited my home state one Spring. My intention was for the viewer to feel all of the beauty and hope that the Spring season brings. Enjoy 8-)

Try the "thumb" tag to show your image here ;)

like so: [thumb=740]yourimageurl[/thumb]

works very well with the imgur images.
