1080i m2ts files from a Sony HDR SR10 Handycam when imported into KDEnlive 0.9.6 generate a message saying it is a "1080p" file and "do I want to alter the project settings". If I cancel the message, I can still edit and render without problem.

If you need a sample file, let me know.

Ubuntu Studio 14.04.1 LTS.

Shove one of the mts files through FFProbe and tell us what it has to say....

FFProbe is part of the FFMpeg package. Kdenlive uses FFMpeg for all sorts of things. So, it's best to see what FFProbe has to say.

Type: ffprobe filename.mts

You could also try avprobe (this is the alternative to ffprobe) because you might a avconv rather than a ffmpeg system.

This blog explains the whole ffmepg / avconv schism that happened a few years back and that we still pay the price for. !!!! >:(
