Hallo, there,

I just found, in my computer, an old sugestion of mine, for a "user friendly" scrolling text interface.
Someone might be intrested.

(the suggestion was for Avidemux, thus the GTK looks, back in 2009, when kdenlive was constantly... crashing)

______ Use ______

When you want to include a body of text, in a video...
posting it, in pieces
(by using subtitles or continues images),
is not the best way to do it.

Scrolling text is much better for the viewer.

______ About ______

This is a demonstration of how, an
"up or down scrolling text effect"
could work,
from the perspective of a user.

______ How ______

The sliders would indicate
the width, the height and the position,
of the text
and the optional background colour.

The text could scroll upwards, or downwards.

A simple fade in/out effect could be included
(up and down, not left and right).

The text lines, paragraphs, spaces,
empty lines,
would appear as in the original text file
with no more effort from the user
(unless, for example,
a line would go out of margin,
when, then, it could be auto-broken).

Apart from the standard options
(font, size, colour, justify left or right etc)
the user could define the amount of space
between the letters [and the lines]
(as in gimp).
This, combined with unusual fonts,
could produce a more artistic result.

...

Let's not forget,
precise speed adjustment
and point of preview [in timeline]...

And all these would show, instantly,
in preview.

Of course,
the controls could have been placed in 3-4 tabs,
under the preview.
But I think it would be better,
if the size of the preview
was proportional to the size of the dialog window
(like in many Gimp filters, again,
or like in Ksnapshot),
and all options sat around the preview.

Also, possibly, when the mouse
moved over or when you draged a slider,
a pop up would show the position of that slider,
in pixels
(let's say, from bottom to top,
and from left to right)

______ Thanks for reading ______

Well, that's all I could think of...

I hope it will help towards some productive thinking,
and maybe we will see such a feature in Avidemux, someday.

In order to avoid any misunderstanding, this is just a "user interface design" (no code and such).

Well, I put this idea out there. Any open source, or free (as in freedom) project can take it and make use of it.

Thanks
