pulldown removal for 24p footage wrapped in 60i (like the Canon HV20, HV30 camcorders)
video stabilization (which is missing in 0.9.10) keep all features from Kdenlive 0.9.10 program monitor window sizes: 25%, 33% 44,44%, 50%, 66,66%, 75%, 100% i found ubuntu studio to be an interesting distro, it is improved for multimedia work. it has periodic releases with updated kdenlive, so maybe in 2016.04 a new LTS version will come with kdenlive 15.12 |

a button in timeline to enable / disable all the proxy clips at same time
this way we can work with all clips in proxy for a fast preview, or in a click of a button disable all proxy to see the full quality, then go back to proxy again. if there is a way to implement deinterlace it would be good. this way we can select the clip in project window or in timeline and deinterlace it to generate a progressive 29,97 fps clip clip from clips which are 29,97 fps interlaced, useful for digital 8 and minidv cameras, also for hdv cameras like the HV20 |

I believe it is the time for a special kdenlive version release, a version to replace paid software, more focus on bux fix and stability, and recover all features from previous versions that are missing, instead of create new things.
the ubuntu studio makes me to trust in linux+kdenlive for serious work. there will be a new LTS version of ubuntu studio in 2016.04 so kdenlive 2015.12 could be focused in refine the bugs, make the features to work properly, so people can have a long term video editing for ubuntu studio 16.04 LTS and no worries about upgrade, than the developing team can keep working without worries for fix things in a hurry... ubuntu studio 15.04 + kdenlive 0.9.10 is stable, lightweight, free, full of updates and softwares in repositories, looks like windows, behaves like windows in mouse, windows and design, no crashes, no freezes, improved for multimedia work - graphics, video, photo, audio, and has good office software also. it keeps the softwares updated in each release, jack audio can be on or off, low latency kernel, comes very well configured, energy settings can be configured, firewire works ok. so kdenlive 15.12 could be focused in a long term to be in the ubuntu studio 16.04 pulldown removal (inverse telecine) would be great deinterlace would be great make video stabilization work would be great make the monitor window size to be 25%, 33% 44,44%, 50%, 66,66%, 75%, 100% would be great a button to enable/disable all proxy clips at same time an option when click the timeline to reposition the triangle (current time indicator) it pauses the playback instead of keep playing a little more height in the timeline triangle line (current time indicator) to make it more easy to click on it when you right click a clip in timeline window the menu could have the "proxy clip" to make more easy to enable/disable, instead of doing this in the project window. this is all great ideas, but most important thing is to be stable and complete with everything developed until now instead of new things, for we trust it to replace paid software. |

Thanks, that's in our plans
do you have example ffmpeg command lines? that would be easy to add to clip jobs menu (and you already can add it in your transcode preferences)
We already introduced fixed zoom levels, does it work for you? Only adding new values is easy then.
Just like thumbnails? Good idea!
True, should be simple to fix.
Good idea, we will see to add this. Many thanks for suggestions. You can see our general ideas page (not linked with any time frame ) |

vpinion thanks for all answers!!!
great to know about the plans for kdenlive 15.12 I do not have commands lines, I do not use text commands because I do not know how to do, I just use the kdenlive interface. I do not know how to develop the software, I just can send ideas... I am using 0.9.10 so I just saw the 100% and 50% zoom options, great to know it is possible to add more levels, hope to see them in next versions. yes, proxy clip button like the thumbnails button in timeline, you got the idea. about the triangle bigger size: good to know it is easy to do, will make more easy to use the software. I also liked you understand the option to click in the time line and triangle change position and stop instead of keep playing. the proxy clip option in right clik menu in timeline: you got the idea. fingers crossed to see the stabilization back and working again... in ubuntu studio 14.04 there is kdenlive 0.9.6 and stabilization is there, but I prefer to use ubuntu studio 15.04 with kdenlive 0.9.10 because it has more bug fixes, but no stabilization... I need to say I did not try the kdenlive 15.04 and 15.08 because I do not know how to install it from the downloads, I just know to install software from software center and package manager, so I need to wait ubuntu studio 15.10 and 16.04 to try the new versions of kdenlive. I found a way to make deinterlace to work, the results are great quality, please see the steps: 1) under settings menu, in manage project settings, create a project settings with progressive option enabled 2) under monitor menu, in deinterlace enable yadif temporal + spatial 3) under monitor menu, in interpolation, enable hiper/lanczos 4) click render, in the render dialog enable force progressive 5) if material is minidv widescreen you can rescale it to 854x480 (optional) if pulldown removal works this way can be good, same way as deinterlace. if possible would be good enable pulldown like an effect, or similar menu item as proxy clip, or simple automatic thing: the software detects it and interprets the clip (maybe more complex to do) I saw the ideas page, interesting things there, I like the timeline ideas, but as I said: kdenlive is in the need of a stable version with all features developed until now, complete bux fix and not missing features, instead of implement new things. a stable version with pulldown removal and stabilization would be perfect for 15.12 (pulldown removal is a must have for serious production) Many thanks for all your answers, I am happy considering kdenlive to replace paid software!!! because I found ubuntu studio 15.04 to be robust and stable with kdenlive 0.9.10 |

I forgot to add that stabilizing the app will not wait 15.12 : there are bugfix releases every month, 15.08.1 will already solve a buch of problems, and "stable" distros package the latest bugfix of a branch (15.08.3 in november).
15.12 will effectively be open to allow new features addition 15.04.0 and 15.08.0 where of poor quality as nobody had prepared packages for the alpha and beta releases, so we got very few testers, we will try to solve this for 15.12. |

thanks vpinion, I got some more ideas:
The default luminance range is 0-100 IRE which corresponds to 0-255. Some waveforms shows 0-100 IRE, some shows 0-255 it is the same range. but the sony cameras like Nex-5n can record image in a wider luminance range. these cameras records image in 0-110 IRE range which corresponds to 0-280. in other softwares, using an effect, we can put down the information from the 100-110 IRE range to below 100 IRE and get more image information in highlights to be preserved in post production. it corresponds to 255-280 range bring down below 255. the kdenlive waveform just shows 0-255 range. to get bennefits from this highlight recover using sony cameras kdenlive would need to read the luminance information in 0-280 range (0-110 IRE) and display it in the waveform. this way we can recover the highlight information bringing it down bellow 255 using an effect, the effect needs to read the 0-110 IRE, 0-280 range to be able to put it down under 100 IRE, under 255. another idea: when right click the clip in timeline there is the paste effect option. using it we can copy effects from one clip, select all clips and paste these effects in all selected clips at same time. it would be good to have "remove all effects" or "delete all effects" option also, so we could select all clips, right click and click in "remove/delete all effects" at same time. I found a small bug, not so much annoying: when you open a project, the monitor options deinterlace and interpolation does no work, I need to change them to other option and then change them to what I want again, then it works. so I open the project, change the monitor deinterlace from yadif to one field, play the timeline a little bit, stop, and change again to yadif, then it works in yadif. same thing for interpolation, I change the monitor interpolation from lanczos to neighbor, reposition the triangle in timeline to another area, and change to lanczos again then lanczos works. another small bug: in both clip monitor and project monitor this happens. in clip monitor, when playback a clip, in the end of the clip the playback does not stop and keep repeating the last part of the audio, when press space bar it stops. in timeline in the end of the last clip same thing happens. it seems kdenlive does not stop playback in the end of clip in project window or in the end of timeline. |

I learned how to install software from Launchpad PPA and I installed kdenlive 15.04.2 from Sunab in the ubuntu studio 15.04
when you learn to follow the steps it is simple to do, ubuntu studio has an automatic software uptade which runs after doing the apt-get in the terminal. everything is step by step explained in kdenlive install page and in the launchpad ppa page. now stabilize is working for me, it works good, but there is one important thing missing in the stabilize feature: it does not remove the rolling shutter problem (jello effect) from the CMOS sensors in the mirrorless and dslr cameras. it would be great to see this feature implemented in the stabilize. I did the stabilization in a footage from camera on tripod where was shaking from a manual focusing, the stabilize removed the shake, but the rolling shutter (jello effect) was not removed. this issue happens because the sensor reads line by line instead of read all pixels togheter and the stabilize does not have a function to remove it... in 0.9.10 there was 4 different themes, I like the dark themes, now in 15.04.2 there is just the default theme. guys, you are doing great job... but please, focus on make the program to work without bug and without missing features instead of develop new things. it is annoying when a new version misses features from a previous version... Edit post: I also found another bug. when I create a new project in kdenlive 15.04.2 I cannot select which proxy encoding I want, I can save different proxy encoding in the kdenlive settings, but the new project cannot select among them. Edit post: I got the idea of having two distros installed in same hard drive. one distro will be the ubuntu studio 15.04 with kdenlive 0.9.10 because this combo is very stable, the best for editing, with less bugs. so I can install another distro just to use the stabilize feature which is missing in kdenlive 0.9.10, I am thinking of install ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS with kdenlive 0.9.6 which has vidstab and transcode for stabilization, a dual boot machine. This way I can wait the new kdenlive versions to mature more. |

This means components are beyond 8 bits depth? I don't know how MLT (the backend we are providing a GUI for) is ready to handle that...
Good idea, adding to the list. Did you see that in 15.08 we introduced the project clip effects (so that you apply color correction on the long shot and it applies to all small cuts in timeline)?
this should go to a bug report... would you want to enter the bugzilla world?
I believe we fixed that already. Can't remember which version it was, I will check. |

Sorry but we don't develop effects ourselves, and even not MLT developpers: we just pick the available libraries
15.04 didn't add anything new : it is just the necessary port to Qt5 & KF5, as versions 4 are not supported anymore. But this was a very big transition, initially many things were broken. We have been fixing the things *we* were using, but still delayed the release by 4 month to get more feedback (it was running since December 2014!). (see that old Krita post explaining the generic problem: devs have a simple quick flow just to check the app is still running, but we rely on fixing bugzilla reports to provide stable releases; forums is not an efficient feedback, and moreover it's too late to fix these users' release ). But we had too few tester during all distros transition to KF5, even people providing daily builds didn't follow. That was a hard time but I hope the sky is clearer now. |

Hello Vpinion,
at this moment I am trying to get more familiar to the kdenlive 0.9.10 which I found to be the more stable and less bug version. I need a free video editor now to do some reliable tasks. I did a look in the Live DVDs from some distros, some multimedia and some live medium distros to try to find the best for me. In the end of research I am running the AVLinux 32bits because it is full of softwares for audio, video, photo and graphics and has the handbrake, vlc, kdenlive, blender, gimp which are the most important for me (all pre-instaled). The AVLinux does not need to be connected to the internet to install, the live dvd is complete. It is based on debian, not in ubuntu, so there is no deadline, no end of life. In AVLinux the system is just english, but it can install different keyboard layouts for different languages. Only thing I need to install on it is a simple math calculator, extcalc and/or gnome calc. I liked ubuntustudio 15.04 also, but it needs internet connection to install the updates and it has an end of life, but the good thins is it has language packages. The advantage of ubuntu studio is it has different languages for the system and for the softwares, but vlc and handbrake needs to be installed. if you have a good internet connection and needs languages for the system ubuntu studio is a good option. but I needed to install handbrake to do pulldown (telecine removal) and vlc media player from the ubuntu software center. The only distros I found with kdenlive 0.9.10 are AVLinux, KXStudio 14.04.2, Ubuntu Studio 15.04. KXstudio works good also, but there will be an end of life because it is based on ubuntu lts. These three distros are in multimedia category. The other distros I tested have kdenlive 0.9.6 or no kdenlive, so I abandoned them. About video stabilization I will learn how to do it in blender, seems to be the best thing for now until kdenlive gets mature about this. So I finished with AVLinux. it is 32 bits, but the computer just have 3GB ram, so it is ok. I learned to tweak windows themes to get a more dark kdenlive environment. At this moment I will try to perceive the stability of this system before try to contributre to the new versions of kdenlive. I would like to help to find bugs in 15.04 and 15.08, but now I need to make the editing machine to be reliable and stable to do some tasks, so I will keep the version 0.9.10 for a while. I think a good idea to try the latest version 15.8 or even the upcoming 15.12 would be to use the debian distro, the latest debian, and install the latest kdenlive on it. I do not know how to use the bugzilla, but maybe in near future I can try to learn. |

The Sony cameras I used was 8 bit. I do not know how they can record in a wider range but they can, they record from 0 to 110 IRE, from 0 to 280, but they are 8 bit. Maybe they put a wider range inside the 8 bit.

I perceived that I can click in the timeline in different places to change the current time indicator position, so it seems that my idea to make the triangle bigger is not needed. I can even click over the time clock numbers and no problem.
I found a way to create a personal distro, I install the avlinux live dvd, then I install other softwares I need, then I use remastersys to create a new live dvd as a system backup, works ok. I am working on 32 bit environment, time will tell if 64 bit is a must or not... |

Maybe Sony does something along the lines of what GoPro does with their Protune profiles: they still encode in only 8bits but using a different lumosity curve that looks like an fallen S in log-linear presentation. In case of Sony they may use some compression curve that maps 0 to 280 to 0 to 255 for encoding. |

Not sure this is your department but firstly I would love to see GPU powered rendering of h264 files, or something similar for youtube.
Also,- an option to auto-fade the start and beginning of all audio clips by a user-chosen amount. A small fade of 50ms or something would stop all this glitching from edits. |
