New Wintab Support

Mon Sep 30, 2013 11:57 am
Hi!

Dmitry and me, we've been busy this weekend replacing Qt's tablet support on Windows. I've got two builds for you to test, one with a lot of debug (which makes it slow) and one with not so much debug. Our impression is that painting now is much more accurate, smooth and precise (with the non-debug version). We have tested it with the Helix tablet, and it works on that device, and we've tested it with the Intuos3 we have, and it works with that.

Now we need testing before this goes into the release!

For general painting, please download: http://www.valdyas.org/~boud/krita_x64_2.7.8.17.msi

If you notice that you have problems (like cursor offset or missing strokes), please download: http://www.valdyas.org/~boud/krita_x64_2.7.8.18.msi

Also get debugview (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysi ... 96647.aspx)

Then run debugview, run Krita and press ctrl-alt-t to enable tablet logging, and paint a stroke and append the output of debug view to this bug: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=298144

Using 2.7.8.17, Windows 8, and Intuos5:
- Weighted smoothing and dynamic movements are back and working wonderfully!
- Drawing in the preview window in the brush settings is also working again.
- No cursor offset or missing strokes that I could tell.

However, the right-click pop-up toolbar seems to have broken. It's only there when the right mouse button is held and no brushes are able to be selected. A colour can be selected with left-click but there's very little precision to be had. Previous colours also can't be selected.

Between the fixed tools and the new wraparound tool, this will be a fun release. Thank you for all your hard work!

Just tried 2.7.8.17 and it seems to be working great on my helix, the gradation from pressure sensitivity seems to be the smoothest i have used in windows graphic programs!!
Thanks!
and kudos from proving me wrong on fixing it!!

ps you may need to restart your computer, after installing, for it to work properly!

RIght click won't show fav. brushes, and drawing in the preview window in the brush settings in not affected by my pen pressure.
I'm using wacom bamboo (at work). I haven't tested it at home yet.

I've heard the right-click bug once more today -- but weirdly enough, that still works with my intuos... The other thing, the scratchpad, I don't think we've tested that yet :-)

http://www.valdyas.org/~boud/krita_x64_2.7.8.19.msi has some more fixes (nothing major), and isn't slowed down by the debug code. Dmitry is right now looking at the scratchpad.

Anyone who has a cintiq and an offset problem, please test _with_ debug :-)

I tested latest build krita_x64_2.7.8.19.msi . Seems that side button on my intuos is inverted in krita. Previously bottom part was invoking 'popup palette' with brushes, now it is panning. Inverting top/bottom actions in krita preferences (canvas input settings) fixes this, but brush popus disappears as sun as I release bottom buttons now. So I'm unable to change brush this way.
I have no brush offset problem

the pen button works as middle mouse on the canvas but in the layers panel it works as a right click. i tried to configure it but no luck yet. i also had some minor problems with pen not registering some strokes. i will try the latest version tomorrow and report. but so far krita is usable.

i also had a problem with a shuttle express(like external keyboard) not working with krita, but it was propably caused by some compatibility settings i had tried for previous versions. i managed to fix it by resetting those settings(in fact the run as admin was the cause). so maybe fiddle with those if you still have problems.

if you want me to try something in particular let me know!

Thank you for the update! I'm glad drawing in the brush preview window is working now and for the general fixes. Some problems I encountered were that my Tags to my brushes are there (in the menu) but don't change/select when I choose a tag to see only the tagged brushes. Some tags are still attached to the paintopreset, and some are just gone. Either way the tags don't work even when I re-tag them. Also is there a way to stop Krita from duplicating my custom brushes or bringing them back once I blacklist them. It happens sometimes when I reopen Krita or everytime I install a newer version of Krita I get all these random copies of presets I saved and stuff I've blacklisted - it's annoying. I have to blacklist stuff I've already blacklisted every time. Aside from this issues, I'm in love with Krita.

I plan to install and log the debug version with my cintiq this week. I don't think i'll be able to until after tuesday, but I'll upload the log to the bug topic :) thanks for the updates!
Edit: Krita Debug installed and Log uploaded!

Tested these new builds with intuos 3 and 4.
To be honest, except for the fact that Weighted smoothing works,I haven't found any advantage, the strokes look like the previous ones(which worked allready good for me).
Not sure if it's known, but configure shortcuts in these builds doesn't work anymore(up to krita_x64_2.7.8.13 they worked) .
Or better,it works only on the session, when you exit and reopen the shortcuts are again as default.

There's new package with a fixed scratchpad: http://www.valdyas.org/~boud/krita_x64_2.7.8.20.msi.

This isn't suitable for helping us debug offset issues.

I've checked, but I cannot (easily) reproduce the shortcut issue, however, it's a bug that is known to happen under certain circumstances: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=313218

On the other hand, I've noticed a crash in wintab code when applying a filter just now, so I'd like to ask everyone to please give this build a thorough test. Try all kinds of things, not just painting, and if anything weird happens, please report in this thread.

Remember, this code is brand-new, highly experimental and pretty hairy!

I noticed the crash when using filters in 2.7.8.19. Tried out the new 2.7.8.20 version and it crash immediately as with 2.7.8.19 when using filters. I'll test some more and avoid the filters.

When I'm importing a layer it seems that Krita registers everything I do in the file dialog and draws on the canvas behind when I click in the dialog. Krita crash when trying to import a second layer.
